“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."

-Matthew 11:28-

Some time ago, I was fishing in a little Colorado creek when I noticed a father with a fishing rod in his hand and a big backpack on his back. We were in the middle of town, and I thought to myself, “Wow, this guy is really prepared.” There is no piece of fishing equipment he would be without. But as he approached me, I realized the backpack had no room for extra fishing equipment. The backpack was occupied by his little girl. Chubby cheeks and bright blue eyes, she beamed beneath the built-in shade covering. Her entire body fit into this fancy backpack and she didn’t have a care in the world. She didn’t need to do anything- this little girl was carried and cared for by her father. Everything she needed, her daddy provided- he carried the load.

Jesus invites you today to rest while he carries your burdens; the burden of life’s challenges, pains, heartaches, and disappointments, the burden of sin that weighs you down. Jesus took this burden upon himself FOR YOU! Thanks be to God!

Jesus is calling all who are weary and heavy-laden to come and follow Him. Those who follow are given a yoke to bear. Yet, when they bear the yoke, they find themselves both carried and cared for, completely resting in this Lord and His love. – Dr. David Schmitt

The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.
