Hello February!!!

Groundhog Day is observed every year on February 2, having originated in the town of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania. The day derives from an old Germanic tale saying that each year a groundhog will poke its head up out of its den around this time.

If it sees his shadow (denoting that it’s a clear day out), the winter will carry on for six more weeks. If not, it means we’re getting an early spring.

Let's see what we find, Raiders!

Did you know? World Nutella Day was established on February 5th, 2007, by Sara Rosso, an American blogger and a Nutella lover like many of us. She thought Nutella deserved a worldwide celebration day, and all Nutella lovers agreed!

They began celebrating Nutella by sharing pictures, ideas, inspiration, and recipes on social media: that’s how World Nutella Day became a global phenomenon.

Graduation date for Spring 2023 has been extended

Are you completing your degree this April? Apply NOW!

Applying for graduation and registering to attend a commencement ceremony are two different processes, with different deadlines. When applying for graduation, you also have the option to register to attend the commencement ceremony. Students are permitted to attend the commencement ceremony that immediately follows their final semester. Find information about both processes below.

Applying for Graduation

All students who are completing degrees this April must apply for graduation. Even if you do not plan to attend a commencement ceremony, you must still apply to have your degree conferred. The deadline to apply for Spring 2023 graduation has been extended to Friday, February 3. If you have not already applied, please do so NOW!

Dayton Campus Undergraduate Students: All undergraduate students who attend the Dayton campus are required to obtain approval from their academic advisor prior to applying for graduation. You will not be able to access the online graduation application without this prior approval. If you have not already secured this approval, do so now by emailing your academic advisor (Find Your Academic Advisor).

All Graduate Students and Lake Undergraduate Students: You do not need approval prior to applying for graduation. Please proceed to the steps below. To submit your online graduation application and graduation fee payment ($35), follow these steps:

  1. Log into WINGS Express.
  2. Select the Student and Financial Aid tab.
  3. Select the Registration & Records menu link.
  4. Scroll down to the bottom of the menu and select the Apply for Graduation link.
  5. If you are earning more than one degree, repeat the steps again for the second degree.

Commencement Ceremony Information

Attendance at a commencement ceremony is optional, however, students may only attend the commencement ceremony that corresponds to the semester of degree completion. For example, if your degree is conferred in April 2023, you may attend the ceremony in April 2023.

Dayton campus students:

  • The commencement ceremony for graduate students (master and doctoral) will take place on Friday, April 28 at 7 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
  • The commencement ceremony for undergraduate students (bachelor) will take place on Saturday, April 29 at 10 a.m. at the Nutter Center.
  • Dayton campus students can register to attend the Spring Commencement Ceremony using the online Graduation Application.
  • Students may change their decision whether or not to attend a ceremony, in Wings Express, through Friday, March 24
