August 16, 2021

School starts in a little over a week! We are excited to welcome back familiar faces and to give a warm welcome to many new faces this year.

Join us on Friday, August 20 for an Open House to visit the classrooms, meet the teachers, and drop off school supplies.

SEPO will host a uniform exchange during the Open House in front of school. If it is raining, the uniform exchange will be in the gym.

Stop by the office with your student's COVID vaccination card so we can make a copy. Sixth grade families can also pick up student Chromebooks in the office during the Open House.

Families can also turn in handbook agreement forms, family pledge forms, and emergency forms to the office during Open House.

Physical forms for all new students, all PK, Kindergarten, and sixth grade students are due by the end of August.

Join us Sunday, August 22nd, for the 11:00 Mass followed by the backpack blessing and ice cream social sponsored by School Board.

The first day of school is Tuesday, August 24th. PK will dismiss at noon and should bring a snack to school. K-8 will dismiss at 1:00 PM and should bring a lunch on the first day. Uniforms for K-8 are required on the first day as well. All students and staff regardless of vaccination status will be wearing masks as we return to school. Like last year, masks can be any design as long as they are school appropriate and fit the face well. Masks with vents are prohibited.

Students should find their teachers outside of school on Tuesday and will enter school at 8:00 AM with their classes.

I would like to welcome Mrs. Cynthia Frankos to the St. Ed staff as our new kindergarten teacher. I know you will join me in making her feel welcome to the St. Ed's community!

I am looking forward to the 21-22 school year and working with you to help all of our students grow in all aspects of their lives. We have a wonderful and supportive school community. Please reach out with any questions.

St. Edward, pray for us!

Sincerely,
Mrs. Sara Lasica
Principal

Health and Safety Updates

This guidance is aligned with the most recent guidance from the CDC and local health departments. The Archdiocese of Chicago will continue to update guidance depending on the number of COVID cases keeping the health of our staff, students, and families the top priority.

  • All staff and students (regardless of vaccination status) are required to wear masks while indoors.
  • 3 feet of distance will be kept between students at all times when possible without disrupting best academic practices.
  • We will continue regular cleaning of all classrooms and common spaces including multiple cleanings of high touch areas.
  • Visitors and volunteers are allowed in the buildings and are required to wear masks. All volunteers must have met all of the Archdiocesan compliance program requirements.
  • Classroom windows will be open to increase ventilation when the weather allows. Air purifiers will continue to be used in each classroom.
  • Students should have a reusable water bottle with them daily as the water fountains will only be used as refill stations.
  • If a student exhibits symptoms, regardless of vaccination status, the student should not attend school. If symptoms last longer than 24 hours, the student can return to school when symptoms subside with a negative COVID test and/or an alternative diagnosis. No student should return to school unless he/she is fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medication.
  • If a student tests positive, regardless of vaccination status, the student must quarantine for 10 days from the onset of symptoms or 10 days from the positive test (whichever came first). The student must be fever free for 24+ hours before returning to school even if the 10 day quarantine has ended.
  • Per CDC guidance, we will no longer need to quarantine full classes. Only unvaccinated individuals regularly within 3 feet of a positive individual must quarantine. Vaccinated students and staff do not need to quarantine if they are asymptomatic. A copy of the student's COVID vaccination card must be on record in the school office. Unvaccinated students and staff who are close contacts to positive household members, including siblings, must quarantine for 14 days from last exposure.
  • We will continue to follow Chicago Travel Ban restrictions. Students and staff who are vaccinated and who travel to an Orange State do not need to quarantine. Unvaccinated students and staff who travel to an Orange State must obtain a negative COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to arrival in Chicago (or in Chicago) or quarantine for a 10 day period.
What is TRIP?

TRIP (Tuition Reduction Incentive Program) helps families lower tuition payments at no cost to the family! Purchase physical or e-gift cards through the Raise Right app at face value. A percentage of the purchase price of the card is donated back to your family's tuition account by the various vendors. Raise Right sells gift cards and e-gift cards for gas, grocery, stores, restaurants, hotels, and many other businesses. We have families who earn hundreds of dollars in tuition each year!

You can purchase e-gift cards anytime on the app or purchase physical gift cards through the school office. TRIP orders are processed the second and fourth Thursdays each month.
