Hello KMMS families,

We hope everyone had a wonderful break and is energized to finish the rest of the school year. To continue building off a strong first half of the school year, we want to take a moment to discuss the importance of student attendance. The reality is that student attendance has taken a dip since COVID. There are multiple reasons why students miss more days, but we do not want to forget the importance of students being in school as much as possible. Students learn better when they are in school. They grow connections with peers and teachers when they are in school. Chronic absenteeism can have a detrimental effect on academic growth and contribute to increased anxiety. In addition, statistics show that attendance in middle school is one of the biggest indicators of high school performance and even graduation. You can find more information at https://www.attendanceworks.org/research/.

COVID complicated many things and made it more difficult for our parents to know when to send their children to schools. Here are two things to consider when your child is feeling under the weather:

  1. If your child is fever free for 24 hours without the use of medication, send them to school.
  2. If your child does not have diarrhea or vomitted in 24 hours, send them to school.

Please see our Guidelines for Illness at School which can also be found here on our website.

We understand that there are times they may be fever or vomit free and are too sick to be here, but we ask that students are in school as much as possible. Thank you for all of your support!

Waiting After School

Students who are waiting to be picked up after school should all wait in the open area by the front doors. We’ve had an increased number of students wandering around the school after school hours. For safety purposes, all students should be by the front doors. We ask that families arrange rides to pick up their students as soon as possible after the end of the day. Thank you for your assistance.

Learning Lab - Mon-Wed @ KMMS

Learning Lab meets in the library right after school until 4:00 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. The purpose of Learning Lab is to give students a chance to get their homework done in a quiet, safe, supervised place after school. You do not need to sign up ahead of time - just show up! If you are still in the building after school, it is expected that you are in an activity like Learning Lab, and that you are participating and getting work done!
