MAFP Annual Meeting
July 17-21, 2021 - Sandestin, FL

One Week Until Destin: Tips for a Great Week

TRAFFIC: Destin is crowded this year following the relaxation of COVID restrictions, and you can expect lots of traffic. One tip for driving to Destin is to continue east on Interstate 10 past Destin and Crestview until you reach the Defuniak Springs exit. Go south at that exit until you hit Highway 98 and go back west a few miles to the Sandestin Resort.

OVERFLOW PARKING: The Sandestin Resort has been busy with construction and some of the parking spots you may have been used to using are not there any longer. If you’re staying at the Village or Grand Sandestin, you’ll be able to park underneath the buildings like normal, but if you’re not, the resort has established a new parking lot just beyond the Grand Sandestin at Inspiration Drive. Allow a few extra minutes to walk to the Baytowne Conference Center if you’re parking in this lot.

DINNER RESERVATIONS: Please be intentional about your dinner plans in Destin this year. Reservations are strongly recommended due to the demand for tables – including the Village.

GROCERIES: We realize you will want to bring groceries for your stay. Destin grocery stores are busy so it might be smart to stock up prior to arriving in Destin. Either fill up that cooler with groceries from home, or stop somewhere during your trip to stock up.

ROLL WITH FAMILY MEDICINE CASINO PARTY
MAFP President Dr. James Griffin loves to try his luck. Following the Membership Luncheon, Awards and Installation Ceremony on Tuesday, we are rolling out something fun and new - a casino party. Everyone will start out with a voucher for $1,000 in chips, and play with $100 bets on the roulette, blackjack, craps and poker tables. Want more chips so you can keep playing? Donate to your Foundation! Of course we will not play for real money, but the highest rollers will win fun prizes. All proceeds benefit the Foundation.

Meeting App
All registrants and spouses are strongly encouraged to download the meeting app. We will not print any schedules, lists, etc. because ALL the information will be at your fingertips on your phone or tablet.   The app will give updates on events, share photos, connect folks.  Download the meeting app now to get all the latest details on the event, including the schedule, list of exhibitors and sponsors, raffle items, and more.

Raffle Items Needed
Attendees, please consider donating an item from your area of the state to our raffle benefitting the MAFP Foundation. Donations will be displayed beginning Sunday at Annual Meeting and the drawings will take place Wednesday during the coffee break. Here is a list of last year's raffle items. If you want to donate, complete the form above or let Beth Embry know you will bring an item.

Knowledge Self-Assessment (KSA) Group Learning Session on Care of Children
Need 8 hours of CME? Join our KSA! Even if you're not working on your requirements for ABFM, you may still receive 8 hours of CME for participating in this session. On Saturday, July 17, from 1-5 pm, MAFP will offer a Knowledge Self Assessment (KSA) group learning session. KSA study groups give you credit for your maintenance of certification through the American Board of Family Medicine. Learners come together to complete the KSA by working through 60 core competency questions. Learners work together to assess, review, and decide the best answer as a group. ABFM awards 8 credits to diplomates who complete each session. The fee is $125. If you want to take part, contact Beth Embry.

Moderators/Devotional
We have a few slots left for any physician who wants to be a CME session moderator or any physician or family member who would like to give a 15-minute devotion one morning at the Annual Meeting. Interested? E-mail Beth Embry.
