Open to All: Food Distribution Every Wednesday at The Glades Initiative 
For the past year and a half, and continuing into the future, The Glades Initiative offers weekly food distribution to anyone in need. Those coming in cars are asked to line up beside the office for drive-through pick-up on Wednesdays from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. Both drivers and walkers will receive food bags on a first-come first-serve basis.
Our staff and volunteers will wear personal protective gear as we handle and distribute the food bags. We ask that drivers and their passengers remain in their vehicles and practice social distancing measures to keep everyone safe.

Support The Glades Initiative by Purchasing a Reusable Bag at Winn Dixie this September!
Looking for a way to support the local community in this uncertain time? Local non-profits are in need of donations to provide others with support. You can give back to The Glades Initiative by picking up a $2.50 reusable Community Bag at the Winn Dixie located at 900 South Main Street in Belle Glade in September. We will receive a $1 donation for every bag sold this month.

An interactive tool using Google Maps to help people easily locate free food and hot meals in Palm Beach County. This online tool was created to connect individuals seeking food resources to sites near them. Information is English, Spanish, and Creole. United Way updates the information listed on this map weekly. However, locations and hours of distribution may change. Please consider calling the site prior to visiting to verify information listed. Please note that sites may have specific requirements such as ID.

School Sites Free Meal Distribution Tuesdays & Thursdays (For Ages 18 and under)
Free Meal Distribution Continues on Tuesdays and Thursdays - BreakSpot Grab 'n Go Meals are FREE to anyone 18 years of age and younger (22 years of age and younger for ESE students), regardless of financial need.
The School District of Palm Beach County is extending and expanding the BreakSpot Grab 'n Go Program, starting August 31. Student grab-and-go meals will be available at 173 District-operated and charter schools throughout the County. Distributions will be on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Food Assistance Available through the CARES Act
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners, through its Community Services Department (CSD), is providing direct assistance for food to eligible residents of Palm Beach County under CARES Act. Palm Beach County will issue pre-paid debit cards to approved residents to purchase food. Eligible residents who experienced a loss of income as a direct result of COVID-19 and who are at or below 140% Area Median Income (AMI) may apply. The one-time benefit allowance is based on household size, and maximum amounts is listed. Only one card will be given out per household, and all expenditures must be made by December 30, 2020.

The Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County provides free legal assistance and representation in landlord tenant matters to eligible tenants who have been impacted by COVID-19 in Palm Beach County.

PBC Approves Needle & Syringe Exchange Program
From Palm Beach County: "Our needle exchange program is long overdue," said Commissioner Melissa McKinlay. "It is the result of lawmakers finally understanding these programs address a public health issue, not a moral failing. Ultimately, our goal is to end addiction. In the meantime, we must react responsibly in our community to reduce the spread of infectious diseases like HIV and hepatitis while offering access to resources in a compassionate environment."

If you or people you know need masks, The Glades Initiative has masks and will share them with anyone in the Glades who needs them. These are the white two-ply reusable washable masks given by the health department. Call or come by to pick them up as long as supplies last.

Youth Services and Early Learning Coalition Provide Child Care Scholarships to Working Families
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners will provide funding through its Youth Services Department to the Early Learning Coalition of Palm Beach County to provide child care scholarships for qualifying families with school age children grades K-5 who may be participating in the School District of Palm Beach County's distant learning curriculum.

PBC Community Services Dept. to Temporarily Suspend Rental and Utility Assistance Applications
On Sept. 1, 2020, the Palm Beach County Community Services Department (CSD) will temporarily suspend the acceptance of rental and utility applications to allow sufficient time to process applications currently in the queue. The county will reopen the application portal in October if funds are still available. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on Aug. 31 in order to be processed.

Skate Parks, Water Fountains, Campgrounds Open Countywide with New Emergency Order
From Palm Beach County: As this order pertains to playgrounds; according to the CDC, outdoor areas generally require routine cleaning and less disinfection than indoor spaces. However, playgrounds are higher-touch facilities and due to the pandemic, PBC Parks personnel will provide a higher level of service to help keep them clean and sanitized as shown in this video. In reopening park playgrounds to the public, the following additional procedures are being carried out each day.

Emergency Repair Program for COVID-19 Impacted Homeowners in Palm Beach County
The Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners approved the Coronavirus Relief Fund (CRF) program on August 25 to establish the Emergency Repair Program to assist eligible homeowners whose households demonstrate a direct impact due to COVID-19. Online applications to be accepted starting September 6.
