November 2021
Happy Thanksgiving! Hansen's Dairy stores will be open regular hours on Wednesday, Nov. 24, and closed on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 25.
Photo of the Month
This little calf born in September has some unique markings.

The pink and black spots on her muzzle look like a checkerboard, making it look like her lips don't line up :)

If that's not bad enough, we also gave her a funny-sounding name — Bazardo. Between her name and her nose, she certainly stands out for her "bizarre" traits!

Our Cedar Falls store is now accepting EBT for SNAP benefits. We are happy to be able to offer nutritious, local food to more members of our community.

Waterloo store discontinuing prepaid card program
Hansen's Dairy Waterloo will be discontinuing the use of the prepaid card program on Dec. 31, 2021.

The prepaid card program began as a membership program, where members would get discounts on milk and other Hansen's Dairy products. However, in 2017, we removed the discount for using the card and made the discounted price the actual shelf price for all customers. This was out of necessity to match with the Cedar Falls store, as we had to use a new point-of-sale system there to allow gas station pay-at-the-pump purchases.

Now our point-of-sale system in Waterloo will undergo an upgrade, and the prepaid program will not be feasible anymore. Waterloo customers will still be able to use up any money on their card, but will not be allowed to reload any money onto the card, effective immediately. Any unused funds on the card as of Dec. 31 may be cashed out and returned to the customer.

Thank you for your understanding.
Customer of the Month
The November Customer of the Month has been buying Hansen's products for nearly 17 years.

Karla Blackford visited the farm around 2004, when our creamery first opened.

"Jeanne Hansen showed me around the farm and gave me a taste test between Hansen's skim milk and a national brand's skim milk. Hansen's milk was unbelievably better, and I couldn't wait to let my family taste the difference!" Karla said. "We have been getting Hansen's milk ever since."

Karla typically shops at our Cedar Falls store and loves that it has recently been renovated to include even more products. Skim milk, butter and cheese curds are always on her shopping list, along with ice cream for an occasional treat.

"The taste is so much better than the rest and we like to support local businesses," she says.

Thanks, Karla! Customers of the Month receive a $5 gift certificate to use at our stores and two free hands-on tour passes to the farm (a $30 value). You could be chosen by filling out an entry form at our stores or through your comments on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
Cow of the Month
The November Cow of the Month had some unique pregnancy cravings.

When Jezebel, age 2, was in the dry cow pen waiting to have her first calf, Farmer Blake found that she loved apples. No other cows had any interest, but she would get super excited for them.

Then she had her first calf, a bull. After she joined the milking herd, she wouldn't eat them anymore. Must have been a pregnancy craving!

Jezebel is a wonderful cow to work with in the milking parlor. Blake wishes all of his 150 cows were as well-behaved as her! How do ya like them apples?
