During the month of April, A Child’s Haven (ACH) is partnering with Children’s Trust of South Carolina to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Businesses and organizations across South Carolina are planting blue pinwheel gardens to spread child abuse awareness. The blue pinwheels represent the carefree spirit of childhood every child deserves, and the gardens honor victims of child abuse.
A child can be affected by both positive and negative childhood experiences. The negative experiences that children may go through such as abuse and neglect are linked to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Without prevention or early intervention treatment, ACEs can have long-lasting effects on someone’s overall health, contribute to behaviors such as alcoholism or substance abuse, and hamper one's lifelong potential.
Most children and caregivers at ACH have experienced multiple ACEs. For 30 years, our services have reshaped futures by providing vital prevention and intervention treatment for children and their families. ACH’s unique combination of services provides healing therapy to those in our community who need it most, breaking the cycle of poverty, abuse, and neglect.
