Spreading Awareness through April
During the month of April, A Child’s Haven (ACH) is partnering with Children’s Trust of South Carolina to commemorate Child Abuse Prevention Month. Businesses and organizations across South Carolina are planting blue pinwheel gardens to spread child abuse awareness. The blue pinwheels represent the carefree spirit of childhood every child deserves, and the gardens honor victims of child abuse.

A child can be affected by both positive and negative childhood experiences. The negative experiences that children may go through such as abuse and neglect are linked to Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs). Without prevention or early intervention treatment, ACEs can have long-lasting effects on someone’s overall health, contribute to behaviors such as alcoholism or substance abuse, and hamper one's lifelong potential.

Most children and caregivers at ACH have experienced multiple ACEs. For 30 years, our services have reshaped futures by providing vital prevention and intervention treatment for children and their families. ACH’s unique combination of services provides healing therapy to those in our community who need it most, breaking the cycle of poverty, abuse, and neglect.

Earth Day and Sustainability
During research on our Therapeutic Outdoor Environments (TOEs), A Child's Haven established a strong partnership with local waste management company, Atlas Organics. This company provides access to composting for homes, companies and municipalities through their comprehensive organics recycling platform.

Our specific partnership with Atlas Organics reduces our food waste and collects compost for the plants in our TOEs. Since Summer 2021, ACH has collected over 800 pounds of food waste from the breakfasts and lunches we serve our children daily. We recently received our first compost shipment that is being used in the raised garden beds around our campus. Visit Atlas Organics to find out how you can do your part to help our planet.
