Fall 2021 - Starting Classes
Special Issue
COVID-19 Campus Information
The University is open and offering a flexible mix of face-to-face, hybrid and online courses. We are monitoring COVID-19 developments daily and following recommendations and guidance from the State, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Indiana State Department of Health and local healthcare providers.

We value a culture of care and concern, and our faculty and staff are working hard to ensure the safety of our entire community and visitors. We understand that, during this pandemic, things are different, and at times challenging, but as Screagles, we take care of each other.

Vaccination Recommendation
The University of Southern Indiana currently strongly encourages, but is not mandating, all members of our community, employees and students be vaccinated against COVID-19. We will continue to monitor and evaluate local, state and federal safety guidelines related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Read about the on-campus vaccine resources.
Face Coverings Required Indoors
Beginning July 28 and until further notice: Face coverings are required indoors on the USI campus, regardless of vaccination status. Physical distancing of 3 feet or more will continue to be required. This decision was made after the July 27 announcement and recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The University has consistently followed CDC guidance throughout the pandemic.
Campus Departments
University Health Center
The University Health Center provides medical services and health-related information to students, faculty and staff and is located in the lower level of the Health Professions Center.

We recognize that health and education are precious assets. Our goal is to help you maintain or improve your health, allowing you to reach your highest potential both in and out of the classroom. The healthcare providers at the University Health Center are employed by Deaconess Clinic.

Office Visit Plan (OVP):
Services Covered by the Office Visit Plan:
  1. Unlimited visits with the medical staff for illness or injury.
  2. Physical examinations needed to complete required forms for athletic participation and health professions majors and/or outside agencies. There may be additional cost depending on services required for completion of these forms.
  3. There are five CLIA Waive tests that are offered free of charge. They are strep test, mono test, urinalysis, pregnancy, and flu.
  4. A yearly flu shot.

There are two ways to enroll in the Office Visit Plan:
  1. All students living in University housing are required by University policy to be enrolled in the OVP. If you live in University housing the OVP fee is automatically charged to your account for every semester that you are consecutively enrolled at USI. Students who move out of University housing may request to drop the OVP.
  2. Students living off campus may submit an online form to the University Health Center, Health Professions Building room 0091, 8600 University Boulevard, Evansville, IN 47712. The OVP fee will then be charged to your account for every semester that you are consecutively enrolled at USI.

USI Insider Tips - New Student Tips
Start this year out right by looking over these tips. Make sure you are getting everything you need and making sure you are on top of everything so this will be the best school year, yet! We recommend and encourage all students to get vaccinated to protect yourself and others, and a mask or face covering will be required inside buildings on campus.

  1. Make sure to get the books you need for class
  2. Use your USI planner to stay on top of all your homework and assignments.
  3. Know your class schedule - AMIGOs will be available during Welcome Week to show you where your classes are
  4. Meet at least one new person in each of your classes - to help make connections and if you have questions you will be able to be there for each other.
  5. Explore campus - you might find shortcuts to your classes and the more you explore campus the better you will be at finding new places you might need to get to or help out other fellow Screagles.
  6. Find good study spots - find the place that works for you, know what kind of environment you study best in. Is it the 4th floor in the library with no noise at all or is in Starbucks were everyone is on the go? Or somewhere in between?
  7. Consider getting vaccinated. Read about the on-campus vaccine resources.
