Easter Egg Hunt Donations and Volunteers Needed!

On April 1st, Prince of Peace is having an Easter Egg Hunt for Pre-K – 4th grade children 9:30 – 11:30am. We are looking for donations of items to put in the eggs for the children to find. Items can be peanut-free candy, stickers, or other small toys that fit in the smaller plastic eggs. Donations should be dropped off in the bucket located in the Narthex by Wednesday, March 15th.

We are also in need of volunteers to run the different activities. The activities are crafts, bubbles, a small bounce house and the actual Easter egg hunts. This is perfect for any students who need service hours for school or scouts! If you are interested in volunteering, please contact M.E. Sorenson at sorenson.me@gmail.com.

Installation of Lay Deacon, Jennifer Gross

The SED Lay Deacon program is a two-year training program designed to equip and empower men and women to walk in the footsteps of generations of Lutherans trained for Kingdom service within their congregation and beyond as everyday missionaries in love and service to their neighborhood and community. Works of mercy, Word and Witness that support our life together are at the heart of the work of SED Lay Deacons. SED Lay Deacons may engage in various types of service, including but not limited to teaching within the congregation; catechesis of youth and adults; caregiving works of mercy like shut-in and hospital visitation, hospitality and integration of members, small group Bible study leadership, and outreach and evangelism. An SED Lay Deacon’s focus of work is in the local congregation and in the surrounding community through that congregation.

We are excited to announce that Jennifer Gross will be Installed as a Lay Deacon at the 10:30am service on February 19th. Please plan on joining us to celebrate.

Lutherans Helping Lutherans

4% ONE-YEAR FIXED-RATE TERM NOTE

Lutheran Church Extension Fund (LCEF) has served as the financial extension of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod (LCMS) since 1978, offering funding and resources in support of the church. Our investors make it possible for us to provide customized loans and support services to new and growing ministries as well as loans for Rostered Church Workers who dedicate their lives to sharing the Gospel. The LCEF blessed Prince of Peace with a low interest rate loan when we built the School and also gives us a yearly rebate of some of the interest, helping us continue our ministry to the community. This limited time offer of a 4% one-year fixed-rate term note is available for Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod:

  • Individuals
  • Congregations
  • Organizations

The choice is up to you. LCEF offers a variety of term notes from 1 to 5 years. At the end of the term, the funds remain yours to re-invest or redeem. Interest is compounded quarterly (March, June, September, and December).

Let's start out each week in prayer, asking for His guidance and blessing as we reach out to our community with the love of Christ. The Sanctuary will be open at 6am starting February 6th each Monday. You can come as you like at any time during the day. Pray for the staff, for the ministries, for the community, for your family, for your friends - pray in the way that God will lead you.

Annual Baby Bottle Campaign

Beginning February 12th Prince of Peace Lutheran Church will participate in a baby bottle campaign to support Sanctity of Life Ministries and the NOVA Pregnancy Help Centers in Fairfax and Alexandria. They provide free and compassionate care in the form of pregnancy testing, ultrasounds, peer counseling, and parenting classes to women facing unplanned pregnancies. The clear pictures of life on an ultrasound seen in their clinics are a reality check on the life growing in the womb. Their vision is to affirm, "Life in Christ.... Life in the Womb." We will be starting our Baby Bottle Campaign on 12 February 2023 by distributing empty baby bottles in the Narthex. Sign in and take home a bottle, fill it with a check, coins, or cash, and return it by 12 MarchPlease make checks payable to Sanctity of Life Ministries. You can also donate online HERE by moving the cursor over the "Donate" tab in the upper right-hand corner and clicking the "Donate Financially" on the drop-down menu. Then click the "Donate" yellow tab that will take you to the Online donation form. Be sure to select "Prince of Peace Lutheran" on the Church drop-down menu. Please contact Jung Choi (POPLC Outreach Ministry Team) at 240-705-3635 for more information.

OTHER NEWS

Pinewood Derby Success!

Thank you Prince of Peace Lutheran Church!

Pack 685 had a successful Pinewood Derby this year! It was cold, very, very cold, but it did not stop any of the 88 unique race cars from competing in 3+ seconds of speed. Our Pinewood Derby crowned 18 speed winners and highlighted 6 special show awards. Our scouts were enthusiastic and parents were proud of their scouts. It was an energetic event filled with creativity, speed and friendly competition! Thank you for sharing Fellowship Hall to host this event. We are very grateful.

Respectfully,

Jennifer Schneider
