PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

This week, we had the pleasure of hearing from Gary Dickinson, President of the Olustee Battlefield Citizen Support Organization. Dickinson spoke on the reenactment program done each year for the past 46 years (minus one year for Covid). This relives the 159th anniversary of the Battle of Olustee which took place February 20th, 1864.

This reenactment has become a major program with a budget of over $80,000. It will take place in and near the Osceola Forrest, February 17th-19th this year, with a multitude of programs commemorating the event. Period bands will be present. During the weekdays, schoolkids come out to get a historical education. On Saturday, there are speakers, authors, painters, and more. There are over 1000 reenactors and there are activities for everyone.

Also on Saturday, there is a ladies' social where everyone dresses in period clothing and that night, a formal ball is scheduled. The actual reenactment takes place Saturday and Sunday at 1:30pm, but Dickinson advised that everyone who would like to attend should arrive no later than one hour before. There is plenty to do and see so even more time allotted is not a waste.

If you'd like more information on this exciting weekend, go to Battleofolustee.org.

This week join us as we hear from candidates of the City Council At Large, Group 5. We will hear from four candidates and learn why we should consider giving them our vote. Join us for a high-powered meeting and please don't forget to bring a guest. Our club's growth is a group effort, and we need everyone's help. Have a great week.

Respectfully,

Jeanne Maron

2023 President

PLAYERS CHAMPIONSHIP VOLUNTEERS

We are in need of volunteers for this year's Players Championship! This is your chance to give back and also have fun!

Players Championship Sign Up – General Information

  • A shift is usually about 7-8 hours long; we always give one longer break (with lunch) and smaller ones in-between whenever each individual may need one. Each volunteer is different so some people might take more breaks than others. We want everyone strong and healthy.

·

  • Obviously, the lunch break might not be right at lunch time since we are feeding the general public at the golf course so most stands will be busy at that time. We will need all hands on deck.

  • Close time does depend on the golfers. The concession stands close 30 minutes after the players go by. So, on Saturday and Sunday the stands will be closing a little earlier since all golfers will play off of #1.  While other days they play off of #1 and #10.

  • Close time is usually between 5-6:30pm. That is a good estimate.

  • Dress Code White Polos with Khaki shorts/skirts/pants
  •  I will have information on where to park and get the bus to the course a little closer to event dates.

URGENT: Our needs are for day captains and workers, so please sign up and if you are bringing a family member or friend to work, please let us know if they are under 21 years of age. No one under 16 is allowed to work. Please sign up online on sbmcjax.com.

Coordinators:

Angelo Volpe 904-891-8032 angelo@volpemanagement.com

Ken Petsch 904-237-2974

ken@apollopackaging.com

You will get some limited times during breaks and lunch to see the golfers around the 16th and 17th greens. This is where the tournament is usually won or lost.
