With Malice Towards None

We live in divided times, and our faith calls us to rise above the vitriol and harsh language and be people of compassion and healing. To aid us in this work, we are partnering with Braver Angels and their With Malice Towards None program to train before the election and then engage in the work after.

On Tues., 10/13, at 7:00pm Marcus Mescher, Associate Prof. of Christian Ethics at XU, will present. To register, click here.

How can we be sources of hope and healing in the midst of so much distrust and division today? Join us for a conversation about how Scripture and church teaching can inform an approach to encounter people across differences. After highlighting several key virtues as guideposts for practicing solidarity, we will discuss the kinds of habits that can help us navigate a fragile and fragmented social context through honest communication, mutually respectful and responsible relationships, and shared rituals that foster inclusion and interdependence. This talk will also reference the newly released encyclical, Fratelli Tutti.

On Tues., 10/20, at 7:00pm David Lapp will lead us through the first pre-election session of With Malice Towards None on building the skills of speaking & listening with compassion. To register, click here.

Between 10/20 and early November, folks will be encouraged to complete a second session (online) on their own on depolarizing within.

In mid-November, after the election results are finalized, we will have two sessions, one tailored for each group (the delighted and the distressed), that are customized w/ Catholic music and readings.

A week after those sessions, we will have a session that brings the two groups together.

Please contact Andrew Musgrave with any questions.

Human Trafficking - Ohio's Tragic Reality

On Mon., 10/19, at 7:00pm, we are offering a free presentation on what human trafficking looks like in OH and how you can get involved in the movement to end it.

Samantha Searls, from IJPC, will present. Registration is required.

Our sisters and brothers in the rural counties have been having an especially difficult time so we drafted this prayer to join us all in supporting them during this very important time of the farming season. Please add this prayer to your daily devotions.

Harvest Prayer
Generous God, we thank you for the richness of this harvest time and for the gift of food produced through the labors of many. May the fruitfulness of this time remind us of your constant love and care for us. While we celebrate your bounty, however, we pray for all those who have been affected by the many challenge involved in the food system. Natural disasters of storms and fires have destroyed millions of acres of farmland and the livelihood of farmers and farmworkers. The global pandemic has taken the lives of many involved in the production of our food from field to table. Our brothers and sisters who are most vulnerable continue to suffer from the economic and political fluctuations that threaten their access to nutritious food.

Still we give thanks to you, God of the harvest, giver of all gifts, as you provide for all our needs. We ask you to hear us as we pray:

That we may receive the gifts of the earth with thankfulness.

That the earth’s produce may be generously shared.

That we may respect and assure justice for those who grow, protect and prepare food: farmers, farmworkers, processors, shopkeepers, transport and delivery drivers.

That all may care for God’s creation and protect the ecological balance of our countryside.

We pray, Merciful God, hear our prayer.

Voting early reduces lines on election day and ensures that Americans do not have to choose between their public health and their civic duty. That’s why we’re promoting Vote Early Day to make sure we all know about our options to vote early.
