Classroom Connections: Mrs. Twine's Kindergarten Class
Mrs. Twine's kindergarteners had an eventful week of learning! The Superstars learned about groundhogs and were challenged to build a groundhog burrow to celebrate the little creature's big day. Students were given paper bags, tape, toilet paper tubes, and paper towel tubes. They had to draw a picture of their groundhog burrow before building it and then figure out how to use the materials to implement their plan. The time limit was only 30 minutes. They got right to work. Great job, Superstars!

|
In math, the kindergarteners learned about counting and sorting to 100 by 2's, 5's, and 10's. In reading, the students focused on persuasive writing. The Superstars learned that persuasive writers might include repetition and words or phrases like "should" or "the best" as a strategy to sway the readers' thinking. The class did a fantastic job writing and working at the math centers this week!

The head coach of this program will be Mr. Artus Woodberry who is a CPS employee at Crane Medical High School. Practices will be begin the week of February 21, and the season will continue through April 1st with wrestling competitions on every Saturday in March. Classroom Connections: Tai Chi in Ms. Wu's Mandarin Classes
Mr. Yi Yang, a Tai Chi master, was invited to teach students ancient Chinese Tai Chi on January 25th. Tai Chi is an outstanding gem of traditional Chinese culture that is valuable in promoting health, developing combat and self-defense skills, and improving concentration and overall well-being. There were 9 classes in which about 250 students attended the Tai Chi classes. This event not only supplemented the Mandarin curriculum taught in class, but also inspired their interest in Chinese culture.
