Making Heart Connections Happen - October 2021

In October, 65 (now formerly) homeless pets made a heart connection with their forever families! Our thanks to adopters for welcoming these amazing pets into their hearts and homes. Above are just a few of the new matches made this month.

If you are considering adoption, submit an adoption questionnaire prior to your visit. Click here to get started. If you have any questions about adoption or about specific pets, do not hesitate to reach out to our adoption team at (804) 693-5520 ext. 102 or by email.
October 2021 Shelter Snapshot

The generous support of staff, volunteers, and donors enables GMHS to provide daily care, cover special medical needs, foster animals in homes as needed, and arrange transportation to adoption-guaranteed partners. We are also committed to education, outreach, and transparency. Our annual statistics are available on our website, and we also offer you a monthly snapshot.
Sammie, a senior cat with hyperthyroidism, spent 74 days in our care. She went to one of our Highway to Home adoption-guaranteed partners in September that utilizes foster homes. Her foster family quickly fell in love and became her forever family!
Success on the Highway to Home

The GMHS Highway to Home program has been working diligently with our network of trusted adoption-guaranteed partners to help place homeless pets in areas where adoption demands are high and rescues have space. When a pet from GMHS goes to one of our incredible partners, they average less than one week in the new shelter before being adopted.

Because of your support, GMHS was able to transport an incredible 229 pets between September 1 and October 31, 2021. Not only were we able to help 229 pets find their families, but that also opened up space for us to save more lives at GMHS.

Thank you to all of our GMHS staff and volunteers for making these two incredible months possible!
GMHS' dear friend Dr. Rudy Shackelford will offer a concert at Bethany United Methodist Church to benefit GMHS.

The concert will be held Sunday, November 14, at 4 PM, and the theme is Beethoven's 250th birthday.

The concert is free and open to the public. An offering to benefit GMHS will be collected during intermission.

Thank you, Dr. Shackelford, for sharing your heart for homeless pets!
Compassionate Community
GMHS was thrilled to participate in the Wings, Wheels, and Keels event on September 25, 2021. Each individual who made a donation at the event was entered to win the adorable Danny the Dalmatian, a large Melissa & Doug stuffed animal. Pictured is Kristina Woli, winner and now proud owner of Danny.

Many thanks to our supportive community for sharing your heart for homeless pets!
