CATHOLIC FAITH AT HOME RESOURCES OCTOBER 4
WHY IS OCTOBER THE MONTH OF THE ROSARY?

According to 15th-century Dominican, Alan de la Roch,
Mary appeared to St. Dominic in 1206
after praying and doing severe penances
for aid in the not-so-successful combat against the Albigensian heresy,
which asserted that there is a good "principle" and an evil one.
Influenced by Eastern religions,it claimed that the good principle created the spiritual, including the human soul, and the evil principle created the material,
including the human body. The spiritual was all good and all material was evil.

Mary praised him for his valiant fight against the heretics
and gave him the Rosary as a mighty weapon,
explained its uses and efficacy,
and told him to preach it to others.
