It may be hard to believe, but the end of the 2020 election is near. Election Day is from 7am-7pm Tuesday, and that day will be your last opportunity to cast your ballot and make your voice heard.
In this election, Harris County residents have been showing up for themselves and their communities in
record numbers. I am so proud of our community doing its part for democracy.
A healthy community is one where people are engaged, and in Harris County 1,435,221 registered voters have already engaged in our election this year.
This blows past our previous turnout for the entire 2016 election -- including the 2016 Election Day -- when 1.34M voted.
Please keep in mind that Election Day this year will look a little different. Unlike in years past,
we may not know who our elected president will be by the end of the night. With the unprecedented number of people voting by mail this year, experts and election officials estimate it could take weeks for every ballot to be counted...
and that's okay.
Counting every vote means democracy is working. The election won't be officially over until every single vote is counted. Just as we want everyone to participate, we also want every vote to be tallied before the results are officially finalized. This includes mail, military, and overseas ballots, which sometimes take longer to arrive and process.
If you or someone you know has not cast your ballot yet, remember to do so at the over
800 locations that will be open on
Tuesday, Nov. 3 from 7am to 7pm. You can find a convenient location and even see wait times at
https://www.harrisvotes.com/WaitTimes.
Let's keep showing up, breaking records, and making our community proud.
Sincerely,
