Mariesa Christine Hinchey 1980-2021

HPED is grieving the loss of our own Mariesa Hinchey, who died suddenly on Friday night at the age of 41 of a heart attack. Mariesa had been project coordinator for HPED for the past year and a half, and she quickly won the hearts of our board, staff, and businesses in the Township. Her cheerfulness, warmth, and dedication to HPED will be dearly missed.

HPED has organized a fundraiser for those who would like to help support her husband Bernie and two sweet little girls, ages 3 & 5.

Mail or drop off a donation to HPED at 412 Darby Road or stop by the donation box at House Cup Cafe. Checks should be written to Bernie Kenzakowski.

House Cup will be donating 100% of sales to the family on Saturday, July 10th.

We have also arranged for a memorial bench to be installed at Bailey Park later this summer.

Our next Haverford Home & Garden Show is scheduled for Sunday, March 6th, and we are now recruiting show sponsors!

The show serves to connect local businesses and residents at a fun community event, as well as to raise funds for the work of HPED. Past shows have included vendor booths, displays, speakers, make and take booths, a furniture flip contest, and a marketplace of home and garden products.

HPED Welcomes Havertown Animal Hospital!

HPED is pleased to welcome Havertown Animal Hospital to 117 N. Eagle Road in Havertown! Dr. Katie and Dr. Lew Springer have always hoped to be small business owners, and opening the doors of the Havertown Animal Hospital on June 28th is a realization of that dream!

Lew grew up in Alabama and attended Auburn University for his BS and veterinary school, but had his vet internship at Penn, where he met Katie. Katie grew up in Center City, went to Bowdoin for her BS, and Penn for veterinary school. They moved back to the area to be closer to family, and now live in Narberth with their two girls, two dogs and a cat.

Katie & Lew have been practicing in Gladwyne at Keystone Animal Hospital, and will continue to partner with them, but wanted to open their own practice in Havertown. “Havertown has always felt like a unique community,” explains Katie.

We have sold over $34,000 in gift cards, and $22,000 of those have not been used yet! Our businesses don't benefit until the cards are used, so make a plan to use yours this week!
