Celebrating 10 Years!
May 2020
Generous Grant Awarded

In February, the William Penn Foundation’s board approved a grant totaling $320,000 to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art under its Watershed Protection Program. T hrough its Constituency Building strategy, the William Penn Foundation continues to support our work to build an active regional constituency for watershed protection among 29 municipalities and other partners within the Brandywine Creek Greenway. The funding will be utilized to expand public access to the Brandywine Creek for experiential learning and recreation, and to advance the region's Circuit Trails network over the next two years.
Projects funded by the new grant include:
  1. Providing technical assistance to Greenway partners to implement Circuit Trails and other connecting trails
  2. PECO Corridor Trail planning in Chadds Ford and Concord Townships.
  3. Brandywine Creek Water Trail implementation in Birmingham, East Bradford, and West Bradford Townships.
  4. First State National Historical Park multi-modal connection planning assistance in Concord Township and in New Castle County, DE.
  5. Mill Trail planning, easements, and acquisitions in the City of Coatesville, Borough of South Coatesville, and Borough of Modena.
  6. Beaver Creek Trail easements and lease agreements in Caln Township.

New Mini Grant Program

What better way to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Brandywine Creek Greenway than to introduce a new mini-grant program?

The Brandywine Conservancy was recently awarded $40,000 from DCNR's Community Conservation Partnership Program (Environmental Stewardship Fund administered by the Bureau of Recreation and Conservation) to run the 2020-2021 Brandywine Creek Greenway (BCG) Mini Grant Program.  The BCG Mini Grant Program will be administered by the Brandywine Conservancy and will provide mini grants of $2,000 to $10,000 for projects that advance the goals and objectives of the Brandywine Creek Greenway . Potential project examples include park improvements, trail work, or public access to the Brandywine Creek that are ready to be implemented in a one year time frame. The mini grants will require a 1 to 1 match from recipients.

Since the funding is coming from Pennsylvania's government, the funding will only be available to Pennsylvania non-profit organizations with tax-exempt status 501(c)(3), municipalities, counties, and educational institutions. The grant funding is anticipated to open in late July 2020 with applications due by mid-September 2020. More details will be announced via the Brandywine Creek Greenway e-newsletter and website when the grant round opens later in the summer. Stay tuned for more details!
