2 WKU faculty members participating in statewide innovation programs
WKU faculty members Moon-Soo Kim and Jason Crandall are participating in statewide programs for entrepreneurs and innovators. Dr. Kim is working on a project to develop a rapid COVID-19 test while Dr. Crandall is exploring opportunities to expand the Bingocize® program.

Dr. Kim, Associate Professor in the Department of Chemistry, is a member of the XLerator Network SBIR Support cohort and is collaborating on a grant proposal for a project to develop a simple and rapid diagnostic method for COVID-19.

Dr. Crandall, Associate Professor of Exercise Science & Kinesiology and Co-Director of the Center for Applied Science in Health & Aging, is participating in the University of Louisville’s LaunchIt program and is exploring business development opportunities for Bingocize®.
Governor appoints two new Regents
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear has appointed Jan Michele West and Wilton Currie Milliken to the WKU Board of Regents. West, of Louisville, replaces J. David Porter of Lexington and will serve through June 30, 2026. Milliken, of Bowling Green, replaces Sheldon McKinney of Wallingford and will serve through June 30, 2025.
MFA in Creative Writing welcomes new class
The WKU Department of English welcomes its sixth class of students in the Master of Fine Arts in Creative Writing program this fall. The incoming students are Prince Bush, a Fisk University graduate from Nashville, Tennessee, concentration in poetry; Caroline Galdi, a University of North Carolina-Greensboro graduate from Apex, North Carolina, concentration in fiction; Chandler Moore, a WKU graduate from Madisonville, Kentucky, concentration in scriptwriting; Sarah Olive, a WKU graduate from Louisville, Kentucky, concentration in scriptwriting; and Ericka Russell, an Ohio University graduate from Pandora, Ohio, concentration in fiction.

Congratulations to WKU Ed.D. student Sam Northern, Library Media Specialist at Simpson Elementary School, for being named a semifinalist for the 2021 Kentucky Teacher of the Year award. Northern, who received his master’s degree in Library Media Education from WKU in 2014, also recently authored a blog post, 8 Tips for Developing Your Own Virtual PLC, for National Geographic. WKU senior receives annual Lee Robertson Scholarship
WKU senior Elizabeth Lyons of Danville has been named the recipient of the annual Lee Robertson Scholarship. Lyons, who is majoring in Biology and Communication Studies with a Pre-Medicine concentration, earned the $500 award designated for an upper-class student at WKU who exemplifies the WKU Spirit. Lyons has shared the WKU Spirit as a Spirit Master, a member of the WKU Honors College and President of Alpha Delta Pi sorority. She has also studied abroad, is a member of Order of Omega and has been involved with fundraising for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Spotlight: Dr. Jeffrey Bewley
Dr. Jeffrey Bewley, an Adjunct Professor of Animal Science at WKU, has joined the staff of Holstein Association USA as the Dairy Analytics and Innovation Scientist. In his role, Bewley serves as a scientific and educational lead for Holstein Association research and development projects focused on technology and analytics innovations.
Three WKU PR student teams earn Parthenon Awards
Three WKU student teams of public relations majors earned first place Parthenon Awards at PRSA Nashville’s 34th annual competition. The winners were announced in a virtual ceremony from Nashville, Tenn., on Monday (Aug. 31).
Imagewest collaborates with MashUp Nashville on project
Every semester, Potter College's student run advertising and public relations agency, Imagewest, develops a pro-bono brand awareness campaign for a non-profit. This semester, Imagewest collaborated with MashUp Nashville.
