TED Ideas Worth Spreading:
The Case for Co-ops
Sometimes it's nice to have help in finding the words to describe all of the great things that come from being part of a co-op. In her talk, Anu Puusa, a co-op enthusiast from Finland, argues that through cooperatives, doing good business and doing good at the same time becomes possible.

In talking about cooperatives as a form of business, Puusa offers a little history, a little cheerleading, and a little advice. "Unlike capitalism, the cooperative movement is not broken. It just needs better marketing."

Taking the time to watch The Case for Co-Ops, The Invisible Giants of the Economy is 11 minutes and 36 seconds well spent.
Co-ops Are A Great Way To Include Parents in Nature-Based Education
Three of our members will soon be joining hundreds of professionals around the globe for the Nature-Based Early Learning Virtual Conference, hosted by the Natural Start Alliance. This is the largest gathering of nature-based early education professionals in North America. Carol Cordle (St. Giles Parent Participation Preschool), Lesley Romanoff (Takoma Park Cooperative Nursery School) and Dianne Rose (Hunters Woods Cooperative Preschool) will speak to attendees on Friday, July 30th in a live session called Inspiring Advocates: Teachers, Parents and Children Embrace Outdoor Learning Together.

The goal of this year's conference is to explore the role of nature and education in promoting healing, addressing injustice, and helping children, families, communities, and the planet thrive. Because cooperatives provide an affordable and accessible model for preschool and they are run by the community they serve, they can quickly adapt and change to be what their members want and need them to be, as was proven as we all adapted during the pandemic. Co-ops can also make nature-based education affordable and accessible for families.

Conference registration is open now. Attendees have access to more than 50 interactive live sessions, 24-hour access to more than 60 on-demand sessions, and, new this year, Natural Start is offering the opportunity to virtually tour up to six unique, high-quality nature preschools in the US and around the world. You also get year-long access to session recordings so you can revisit your favorite presentations, gain continuing education credits throughout the year, and get the most out of your conference experience.

Membership in the Natural Start Alliance is free. Visit conference.naturalstart.org to learn more and to register for the conference.
