Final Results for Cook County

 Nov. 8, 2022 Election

The Cook County Clerk’s office and the Chicago Board of Elections have reported final results for the elections held within suburban Cook County and the City of Chicago. The Clerk’s office has posted a summary report showing the results from both election authorities, along with the totals.

  •  The Forest Preserve referendum passed with a total of 68.92% of the vote.

  •  The winners of the Cook County government and Metropolitan Water Reclamation District races are posted on the League web site, with newly elected officials noted. All incumbents on the ballot retained their seats.

  •   All judges up for retention had in excess of the minimum 60% “yes” vote.

  •   Total votes cast: 1,458,690 or 45.7% of total registered voters: 743,892 (45.12%) in suburban Cook + 714,798 (46.39%) in Chicago.

For the election junkies out there, here are a few other facts:

  • The 9th District Cook County Commissioner seat was the closest contest among the County government and MWRD races. Democrat Maggie Trevor received just 680 votes more than her opponent Republican Matt Podgorski out of a total of 108,382 votes cast. (The 9th District includes the NW side of Chicago and western and NW suburban areas.)

  • The 10th Cook County District (located on the north side of Chicago with just a sliver of suburban Cook County) had the largest total turnout among the Commissioner Districts with 112,214 (Bridget Gainer won that race)

  • The trophy for the highest county-wide vote-getter goes to Assessor Fritz Kaegi with 1,063,188 votes, just 28 votes more than Treasurer Maria Pappas with 1,063,160 votes.

Cook County Property Tax Bills Are Mailed

Payment is due on the 2nd installments of the 2021 bill by December 30, 2022. Copies of the bills are available on the Cook County Treasurer's site, Your Property Tax Overview.

The Treasurer's site also has a study, Tax Bill Analysis and Statistics, that explains levies, tax rates, assessments, and collection of taxes.

2023 Municipal Elections Voting Centers

The Illinois General Assembly passed a bill that requires all election authorities in the State to have at least one voting center for use by all voters in that jurisdiction for the municipal elections. Voters can use the voting center no matter what precinct they are registered in. Both Cook County and the Chicago Board of Elections had voting centers on Nov. 8, 2022.
