Dear Friends & CdK's Visionaries,
This Christmas season is alive with the sense of new possibilities! Even though we are here in Oaxaca in a sunny climate, enjoying warm afternoons, it still feels like Christmas. It is the season of giving and we are heartened that we have so much to be grateful for, both personally and communally.
Last week, with many of our students in attendance, we enjoyed our annual Christmas party. It was our 103rd group event since 2015! Dinner was accompanied by small gifts and goodies for each student.
Our two youngest students attended the Christmas party, with their mom and dad, shown in a photo below. Their 42-year-old father became blind last year, so CdK has helped them with groceries and the children’s educational needs. Three days after this photo was taken, their father died during a surgery complication. These two precious kids continue to be in our hearts and plans as we ensure they stay in school.

Through Casa de Kids and the generosity of CdK’s greater community, a saxophone has been made possible for one of our music students, and the University of California, San Francisco, donated 10 e-tablets for some students. Additionally, one of our dental students is set up to give back to his community, and our young medical doctor is ready to set up his preventive medicine clinic.
Our continued care, and efforts to bring solutions to our entire student body is daunting but so satisfying and makes a big difference in their lives. We follow the attitude of our students - be of good cheer, be thankful, and every day, make the world a better and better place.

Why Oaxaca? Oaxaca City is the capital of the state of Oaxaca (pronounced wah-ha-kah). While our state is famous for native and culinary arts, it ranks as the country's third poorest and has one of the highest illiteracy rates. Its mountainous terrain makes commerce and education difficult, attracting many seeking a better life to Oaxaca City.
