News, Life, and the Art Culture in the Smoky Mountains
Hello!
Sunrise ……… the start of a new day which lies ahead with limitless possibilities of what will unfold. There are mornings of waking with the excitement of hopes and dreams you envision or there may be a sense of dread with a dullness in the pit of your stomach. As the sun’s rays light the day, it is an opportunity to start fresh with a clean palette beginning a day of which you may or may not have control.
As I create this greeting I am, unexpectedly, in Florida after a call to see my mother in her final days. A call that turned a blissful Sunday upside down. As I “wait” the hours are filled with reflections, tears, and laughs, as this unanticipated week has delivered its bright moments and opportunities during a time of sadness.

These sunny spots include delivering vases of zinnias we (actually, my son) have sown in the pasture to unexpectant recipients. It has been as much joy to the givers as to the receivers.
Thanks to an amazing team in the gallery, the day to day continues at a steady clip at Twigs and Leaves Gallery. Next week preparations will need to be made for a “Month of Margaret” ….. yes, the beloved Margaret Roberts.
There will not be an artist’s demonstration but Margaret vows to be in creation super-mode all month so make sure you keep up with our social media for continuous updates. Due to Covid-19 constraints we continue to not participate in Art After Dark per se but, again, will have an expanded display of Margaret’s work all month.

Sunsets make a dramatic, exclamation point at the end of the day with time to reflect on what the day had anticipated with the rise of the sun.
As my mother’s sun sets it gives a moment to pause and reflect on a life well lived. As nature’s palette paints a brilliant exclamation, may it reflect your day well-lived.

May You Walk in Beauty ~ Carrie

SPOTLIGHT ARTIST:

Tamara Klingsheim
Tamara resides and works in Waynesville, a quaint mountain town nestled between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains.

Over the next couple of years, she continued developing her skills, then in 2016, set up an in-home stained-glass studio, Smokey Mountain Glass, where she designs her work.

“Living in these beautiful mountains and working with glass to create one-of-a-kind pieces of art gives me great pleasure which I enjoy sharing with others!”

Margaret Roberts
A native of southern Virginia, Margaret graduated from Radford University with a B.S. degree in Art and a graduate degree in Adult Education from the University of Missouri. In addition to teaching art in K-12, she managed an Adult Literacy facility and worked in events planning and public relations for IBM in St Louis. Margaret also exhibited her work in Barnes and Noble's St. Louis stores and gave presentations on how to learn to paint from books. She also exhibited in several St. Louis galleries and at the Missouri Botanical Gardens.

Twenty years ago, Margaret began to explore water-color and has lately been developing watercolor collage techniques. She possesses a heightened visual awareness for the beauty of simplicity which is apparent in her collages, and she delights in the fresh, childlike feel this approach gives to traditional subjects.

Always curious, she is constantly trying new media and is currently working in pastel, oil and acrylics as well as watercolor and collage. This has led to her involvement in a broad range of continuing art education with professional artists from across the U.S. Margaret teaches collage in her Soaring Mountain Studio and hosts visiting artists who teach in a variety of media and styles.
