Solutions for FUNctional Independence
START WITH YOU!
Greetings!
The First Annual Poodle Palooza was a howling success! Raisers, Handlers, Service Dogs in Training, donors, board members, and the general public came together to celebrate Service Dog Awareness Month and our first twenty-one months in operation. It was a magical evening to see our hard work on the big screen and dance to live performances by the Rubaiyat Band , Katie Mclemore and HingZhe Lee, Blestian Band, and DJ Jory keeping it sweet! Thank you to our amazing volunteers, Silent Auction Donors, Sponsors, and attendees!

In September, four poodles flew from Montana to California with our partner Pilots N Paws to start training with their handler/raiser teams. These new recruits stepped off the final plane and into the arms of their raisers. They are working with their Raiser/Handler teams, trainers, and MSD-WCP every day. All teams, new and old, are currently participating in #365 Days of Training to encourage and support one another through the frustrations of growth and development phases, motivate each other to get out in the world to expose these puppies to every day life, and encourage one another through the rewarding work.

We successfully piloted The Reading Circle program at the local elementary schools and have been invited to facilitate the program full time starting January 2020. The Paws that Empower is moving forward with aplomb as we finalize details to best support the youth at the residential rehabilitation program. We will be making presentations to three businesses in the final quarter of 2019, and are excited to see where our Education and Outreach Programs take us next year!

We are gearing up for Giving Tuesday in early December and as always looking to you for support. We need volunteers , donations , puppy raisers , and in-kind support to make the magic happen! Join us to put the FUN in FUNctional independence.

In gratitude,

Hampton Gus and Dani
“For the past few years I have been limited by my mobility, and unable to live a full and functional life. Gus has already learned to notify me when something is not “right” with my body. We are learning to walk together as one unit, which not only amazes me, but gives me such hope and a new found determination. I look forward to continuing our training and the many adventures I know we will have! Gus beelines to me when my oxygen levels are off, to check in with me to make sure I am okay and prevent me from falling. He will leave treats, whatever he is doing to check in with me and make sure I stop and sit. To be able to leave my home without the worry of falling is a gift that I can’t thank MSD-WCP enough for! I feel so fortunate and so very blessed!"

Dani and Hampton "Gus" are a Handler/SDiT team who have been together since Spring 2019. They are currently working on their Public Access Test. Go team, go!
