Message from Pastor Austin

“Am I now trying to win the approval of human beings, or of God? Or am I trying to please people? If I were still trying to please people,
I would not be a servant of Christ”
Galatians 1:10

Are you living for "likes"? Many people live for digital “likes”, or “thumbs up”, or “friends” or “followers.” I have witnessed teenagers scrolling through posts faster than a hummingbird’s wings can flap. Electronic affirmations have become a part of our daily lives and sadly a driving force in our self-worth. Years ago, when I was in the business world I received a phone call from a salesman who told me he sold “friends and followers.” Seriously, he sold blocks of "friends" that would be instantly added to accounts for a certain price. I did some homework and found out it was no scam, it was an actual business -I was shocked and I instantly realized the shallowness of electronic affirmations. That was years ago and I hope things have been changed, but sadly people still find acceptance in electronic "likes." But Jesus did not live to be liked, in fact he died because he loved us and in his death and resurrection he gave us our value and showed us we are accepted, secure, and significant because of him.

This week, we start a new sermon series titled “Who I am in Christ.”

Week 1: I am Accepted

Week 2: I am Secure

Week 3: I am Significant

Who am I in Christ?

I am God’s child.
John 1:12

I am a friend of Jesus.
John 15:15

I have been justified.
Romans 5:1

I was bought with a price.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20

I have been chosen by God and adopted as His child.
Ephesians 1:3-8

I am redeemed and forgiven of
all of my sins.
Colossians 1:13-14

I am complete in Christ.
Colossians 2:9-10

I am accepted.

We all want to be liked, but when it comes to God we are not just “liked”, we are loved with all our flaws, all our pimples, all our scars. God loves us - no photo shop needed. This week, as the world frets over an election, may God’s peace be with you as you remember who you are in Christ- You are Accepted.

See you Sunday I can’t wait!

Austin
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.

1 Corinthians 13:4-8
The point is this: whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows bountifully[a] will also reap bountifully. Each one must give as he has decided in his heart, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-7

Dear Grace Fellowship Members and Friends…

October is Pastor Appreciation Month, and we are so blessed to have Pastor Austin at Grace Fellowship! He is the first person we think of when we need counsel or comfort or spiritual direction. Our pastor has a heart of gold, always ready with a hug, a word of encouragement, a story that relates to our circumstance, and lots of love. He truly cares about us!

"Dear Pastor Austin, we hope you feel our love for you and know that we are always praying for you and your family. Thank you for being such a wonderful shepherd of this flock."

We have been through a lot over the past several months and Pastor Austin has worked overtime making sure we have been fed even when the church was forced to close… As October draws to a close, Pastor Austin will be receiving an appreciation bonus from you, the Church, as a thank you for all of his efforts over the past year. The Church Leadership board would like to encourage everyone to let him know just how much he is appreciated… Please reach out to Pastor Austin with cards, texts and emails to show your support and appreciation! Thank You!
