ANNOUNCEMENTS
Guidelines for Submitting Content to
Heart of Longmont
Over the past few months, Heart of Longmont relies more than ever on our digital content and reaching our friends and congregation virtually. Because of this, we are receiving more submissions for our newsletter, website, and worship services in digital formats. This is wonderful, and we thank you for sharing your words, photos, and videos with us!

To make the process of uploading and sharing your submissions smoother, we have compiled some submission guidelines below. Please check that your files meet these guidelines before submitting. If you have questions, feel free to email: communications@heartoflongmont.org.
Live Chat and Comments on YouTube
Many of you have asked why the live chat and the comments section on our live broadcasts and some videos are unavailable. Because of the Children's Time segment of worship service, and any other content that may be deemed for kids, we must tag the video "for kids" in order to comply with YouTube Terms of Service, which in turn complies with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act). Compliance means the live chat and comments sections are turned off for any content flagged as "for kids".

We apologize for the inconvenience this may have caused, but appreciate your understanding.
Baby Shower for Emily Farrenkopf
Our very own Emily Farrenkopf, youth director at our church, and her husband Eddie Rivera are having TWIN girls!

We are planning a Drive-By Baby Shower for them on Sunday, September 27th from 4-5 pm.
We invite anyone from the church to swing on through, in front of the church, and say hi, drop off a gift or just honk and wave your support.
Our church is blessed beyond measure in the leadership provided by Emily to our youth group. Let's show her how much we appreciate her and "shower" her with HOL LOVE!

Emily is registered at Target where you can check out some items that they will need. OR you can just purchase diapers of any size...they will need lots of them! Click here to see her registry.

If you have any questions or need to drop off a gift early if you can't make it that day, contact Tricia Grafelman at 303-506-3678 or grafsanatomy@gmail.com.

Boulder County Crop Walk
by Jan Timmons

Get out those walking shoes! It is time to get ready for the annual Crop Walk.
Even though it is modified, it is still the same crop walk. What is a modified crop walk? Everyone asks that questions. It is pretty much the same. You register on line, and find some sponsors. Then you set a date and time that you will walk. You can walk with whomever you are comfortable – family, friends, book club group, whoever. The money has to be turned in by October 25, 2020. To register and find more information go to: http://www.bouldercropwalk.org.

Where does the money go that is raised? The money goes to Church World Service, Community Food Share, and Bread for the World. The Community Food Share says that, since the pandemic began, they are giving away more food than they have ever given away at any other time in their 39 year history. They have distribution points all over the area. Plus they actually deliver to low come areas such as mobile home parks.

Please support this valuable organization through your gifts. You can also contact Jean Malchow who is the head of the Crop Walk for our church this year.
Audio/Visual Coordinator Needed
The Staff Parish Relations Committee has created a position for an Audio Visual Coordinator. If you or anyone you know might be interested in this position, please contact Joan Edmonds or Mary Ann Watson and we will send you the information specifying the job requirements and how to apply.
Church Council Minutes
There is from time to time requests for Church Council Meeting Minutes. Reviewed and approved minutes are available from the Church Office approximately a month after each meeting. Please contact the Church Office for a copy.

Update from Children and Family Ministries
The Kids of HOL are going strong and having fun! We just finished our 2nd Sunday School in the park this past Sunday and had a fabulous turnout. We will continue to meet for Sunday School in different parks around town on the second and fourth Sunday of the month while the weather is still good. If you're interested in joining us or know someone that is, email the children's ministry team at kidsofhol@hotmail.com.

We are in the process of tentatively planning a safe social-distanced trick or treat event in the afternoon on Halloween. if you are interested in helping out behind the scenes or in-person please email the Children's Ministries team at kidsofhol@hotmail.com.
Re-Open Team Update
The Heart of Longmont Re-Open team is responsible for developing timelines and protocols for re-opening the church following our shut-down in March from the COVID-19 pandemic. The team met this week and approved allowing certain designated small groups to begin meeting in the church building. Strict guidelines and protocols for mask wearing, and cleaning will be followed. Wild Plum Head Start has begun meeting in the education wing and the full opening for Wild Plum will occur next week.

Committees and other teams of the church are asked to continue to meet using ZOOM.

The Re-Open Team will meet again in two weeks to access how the process is proceeding. A decision on allowing adult Sunday School classes to meet will be made soon.

The office is open three days a week: Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 10:00am till 1:00pm. Anyone visiting the office must wear masks and use the hand sanitizer provided.

Sunday worship will continue to be held virtually on our YouTube channel, Sundays at 10:00am until further notice.

UMW HOLIDAY FAIR UPDATE
It is with great sadness that the UMW have decided not to have our traditional Holiday Fair this year. This is our biggest money maker of the year for our Mission projects and pledges.

HOWEVER, watch for ways you can still help us out!

We will be having items for sale virtually, hopefully some jams and jellies available, as well as a possible luncheon of our normal pulled pork sandwiches, but in a curbside pickup or delivery scenario. Also, we will probably be doing another round of cheeseballs for the holidays.

PLEASE watch for the “new” ways to help us continue our mission work in this crazy year of 2020.
Have an article or photo you want to see in the next edition of the Pulse?
Send them to communications@heartoflongmont.org by September 14!

Pilgrimage to the Land of Love!
Humankind throughout the ages have taken pilgrimages to sacred sites, often unknown and foreign, to go in search of new or expanded meaning about themselves, others, or a higher good. It can lead to transformation which the pilgrim integrates into their daily life when they return.

Christians, when they were unable to make a pilgrimage to the holy land, even used labyrinths as a pilgrimage tool.

I am inviting all the laity and clergy of the Mountain Sky Conference to join me and others across our area on a pilgrimage. You don’t need to leave home for it. All you need to do is set aside some time each day so that together, we can take a Pilgrimage to the Land of Love.

We stand at an important moment as we are brought to a deeper awareness of the high price of racism. We are seeing the toll it takes on persons of color and how racism defiles the beautiful image of God each person possesses.

As disciples of Jesus, it is time for us to address this, first by beginning with ourselves.
It is written in Psalm 139:

Investigate my life, O God,
find out everything about me;
Cross-examine and test me,
get a clear picture of what I’m about;
See for yourself whether I’ve done anything wrong —
then guide me on the road to eternal life.

For me, the imperative to doing an inward inventory of not only the ways I sustain racist systems and structures, but the ways I benefit from them and especially how I, too, am a racist, even unwittingly, is a demand of discipleship: I follow a Jesus who was a boundary crosser, exposing racist, sexist, classist ideologies and commanding us to overturn them by calling us to increase our love of God and neighbor. Not some of our neighbors. But everyone in every place on this earth.

Starting on Sept. 6, when we will all gather as pilgrims, we will journey together each day as we receive text or email messages — one a day — to help us engage more deeply with anti-racism resources in order to see our world in fuller ways.

Undergirded by the power of scripture, we will hear songs of struggle, read prophetic words, and view powerful videos. These will help us broader our worldview as we hear the voices and experiences of others. Together, we will share insights and new learnings and integrate these into our daily walk with Jesus. And then, we will allow ourselves to be led by the Holy Spirit to a Land of Love.

I hope you will join me on this pilgrimage. You can find information for it on the Mountain Sky Conference website. Please sign up by Sept. 4. Invite others to join us by posting on social media. My hope is that every United Methodist in the Mountain Sky Conference will join this pilgrimage.

I look forward to journeying with you!

2020 BUMMP Salmon Dinner
The 2020 sit-down dinner will not be happening due to the pandemic. But, wild salmon is still being shipped from Alaska and will be on sale through BUMMP at the local churches.

Salmon steaks and fillets $10.00/pound, and donations are welcome since this is a fundraiser! The deadline to place orders for salmon is September 20th.

The salmon should be shipped, processed, and packaged by the beginning of September. Salmon steaks and fillets will be available for purchase.

Remember this is the BUMMP yearly fundraiser that allows BUMMP to assist financially with church and individual mission trip activities. We are in hopes that these activities will all resume by Summer, 2020 so your support is needed.

Contact BUMMP representatives at your local churches to place orders. If you don’t have someone to contact at your church, contact our BUMMP secretary, Kathy Sanford (kathysanford60@gmail.com), and she will help you with your order and let you know the times you can pick up orders at Lafayette United Methodist Church.

Blessings to you all,
The BUMMP Board
