A Message from Edward Healton, MD, MPH
Many in our GUMC community are marking significant holidays in their faith traditions -- Easter, Passover and Ramadan. These, along with Holi celebrated last month, offer a time of reflection and renewed hope, and the opportunity to be reminded of our values at Georgetown. This is a particularly poignant moment in our world’s history as we watch, in horror, as the war in Ukraine rages on at unimaginable human costs. In this issue of GUMC Update, we spotlight two BGE and NHS alums who are answering the call to make a difference in Ukraine. We hope you will be inspired by their actions.

Edward B. Healton, MD, MPH
Executive Vice President for Health Sciences
Feature Stories
Since Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February, Hoyas from the medical center have provided support for those impacted by the war. In the midst of the war’s devastation, their work has been a source of hope and inspiration.
After expressing concerns about their sense of purpose and the way they build community, medical students held the first “I, Too, Am Georgetown Medicine” event in 2017. Six years later, the event remains a valuable opportunity for participants to reflect on their experiences and build connections.
Four medical students were awarded the grand prize at the 2022 Georgetown Public Policy Challenge for their proposal to make opioid reversal medication more accessible to DC residents, aiming to reduce the number of preventable overdose deaths.
Graduate nursing and medical students, and BGE students, can now apply to live in Georgetown’s newest residential community at 55 H St NW. Applications are available to make this new space your home when it opens in August. Take a 3D tour and apply here.
