Happy Friday Gilroy,
Ahead of Halloween and Día de Los Muertos, Santa Clara County health officials are urging residents celebrating to take extra precautions amid COVID-19. Traditional activities, such as trick-or-treating, costume parties or crowded, confined spaces like haunted houses, raise the risk of spreading viruses.

Tips for Safe Celebrating:
  • Celebrate Halloween traditions like carving pumpkins or a scavenger hunt-style trick-or-treat search with your household members in your home.
  • Visit an outdoor pumpkin patch, while wearing a mask and maintaining distance from others.
  • Carve or decorate pumpkins outside, at least 6 feet apart while wearing masks, with a very small group of neighbors or friends. Fewer people with more distance is safer.
  • Have a virtual costume contest.
  • Dress up your house, apartment, living space, yard or car with Halloween decoration or decorating homes with images and objects to honor deceased loved ones.
  • Prepare traditional family recipes with members of your household.
  • Play music in your home that your deceased loved ones enjoyed.
  • Make and decorate masks or an altar for the deceased.
  • Participate in vehicle-based gatherings that comply with state and local guidance like drive-in movies and drive-through attractions, or car/bike parades where participants do not leave their vehicles.

Have a great weekend and be well!

It's Time to Vote!
Election day is almost here and we've prepared some FAQs to help provide answers to some recent questions including:

  • Where do I turn in my vote-by-mail ballot?
  • If I vote by a vote-by-mail ballot can I also vote in-person at a Vote Center and will my vote be counted twice?
  • How can I tell if my ballot has been received and my vote has been counted?

For answers to these questions and more, visit the City's Election and Voter Information page.
Turn Don't Forget to Fall Back
Daylight Saving Time ends this weekend. Don't forget to turn your clock back 1 hour before you go to bed on Saturday night.
Bike Lanes Are for Bicycles, Not Trash Containers
Is today or tomorrow trash day for you? Please think twice about placing your trash cans into the bike lanes. Recology South Valley asks that you place the carts up against the curb. Please don't place them in the bike lane, Recology trucks have the ability to reach the carts placed up against the curb. The California Vehicle Code requires that the bike lanes be free of obstructions. People biking to work, home, recreation, dining, groceries, and school count on the bike lanes to be open.
