Thanksgiving Message from the Mayor
Good Wishes and Thanks to All
Dear Residents,

As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, I wanted to take this opportunity to convey my good wishes and thanks to all of you.

2020 has been an unpredictable and tumultuous year. We have all experienced changes in our lives and daily routines. For many, the Pandemic has completely upended their lives. But throughout this time I have seen how our community has come together to help fellow residents in need.
I have always been proud to call White Plains home, but I am especially proud now. I have been awed at the response we received to calls for volunteers, support & contributions. You have opened your hearts and shown your community spirit.

And as we, as a nation, grapple with larger societal issues that must be addressed, I am grateful once again to be part of this community because I know that, at least at a local level, we are working together to address them and move our community forward for the better.

Please continue to wear a mask whenever you are in public and within 6 ft. of others. Don’t take unnecessary risks. Even though Thanksgiving may feel different this year, I hope that you all enjoy it safely.

With THANKS & GRATITUDE,
Mayor Tom Roach

Normally, the sidewalk dining season ends in early November. But the White Plains Common Council will consider legislation to allow restaurants to continue to offer outdoor sidewalk dining through December 15th at its November 2nd meeting.

With COVID restrictions still in place for the foreseeable future, this extension will help our local businesses. So throw on your coat and grab a seat by a heater at your favorite restaurant! Remember to check the White Plains BID restaurant guide for dining suggestions and to sweeten the pot;

City of White Plains Honored for Leadership
in Affordable Housing
The City of White Plains will receive the Westchester County Association’s Annual Playbook Award for leadership in creating diverse and affordable housing.

The goal of the Mayor and Common Council is to provide opportunities to all residents seeking affordable, healthy, safe, and stable homes. Toward that end, the City established the Affordable Rental Housing Program, which requires developers to rent a portion of the apartments in their buildings to tenants whose annual income is between 60% and 100% of the Area Median Income.

This program has created 162 apartments in 11 buildings that provide quality housing that is affordable to moderate income households. An additional 114 affordable apartments are currently under construction or nearing completion.

Pumpkin Captures the Spirit of the Season
Last month we asked readers to share a picture of their favorite jack- o-'lantern with us. The photo at right, from Cara Pensabene, MD, sums up the season and the sentiment around the city. Other pumpkin photos were sent in by Denise Costa and J.G. Barnes. Thanks to all!

This month, we are asking that you send along one sentence sharing something you are thankful for. Email to feedback@whiteplainsny.gov.
