Dear Shawnee UMC Family,

Please join us for Worship

this Sunday

in-person or on Facebook Live at 10:30am.

Pastor Changsu's sermon Scripture will be:

Proverbs 19: 11

Those with good sense are slow to anger,

and it is their glory to overlook an offence.

The Tuesday Lectionary Group invites you to share some of your favorite scriptures, which we will then share with all members.

Please email them to:

maryann13fenstermacher@gmail.com.

Here are this week's scriptures for study and meditation:

Psalm 9:18-20 Because the poor won't be forgotten forever, the hope of those who suffer won't be lost for all time. Get up, Lord! Don't let people prevail! Let the nations be judged before you. Strike them with fear, Lord. Let the nations know they are only human.

Isaiah 25:7-9 He will swallow up on this mountain the veil that is veiling all peoples, the shroud enshrouding all nations. He will swallow up death forever. The Lord God will wipe tears from every face; he will remove his people's disgrace from off the whole earth, for the Lord has spoken. They will say on that day, "Look! This is our God, for whom we have waited--and he has saved us! This is the Lord, for whom we have waited; Let's be glad and rejoice in his salvation!"

John 10:4-10 "...Whenever he has gathered all of his sheep, he goes before him and they follow him, because they know his voice. They won't follow a stranger but will run away because they don't know the stranger's voice." Those who heard Jesus use this analogy didn't understand what he was saying. So Jesus spoke again, "I assure you that I am the gate of the sheep. All who came before me were thieves and outlaws, but the sheep didn't listen to them. I am the gate. Whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out and find pasture. The thief enters only to steal, kill, and destroy. I came so that they could have life--indeed, so that they could live life to the fullest..."

Hebrews 2:14-18 Therefore, since children share in flesh and blood, he also shared the same things in the same way. He did this to destroy the one who holds the power over death--the devil--by dying. He set free those who were held in slavery their entire lives by their fear of death. Of course, he isn't trying to help angels, but rather he's helping Abraham's descendants. Therefore, he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every way. This was so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, in order to wipe away the sins of the people. He's able to help those who are being tempted, since he himself experienced suffering when he was tempted.

God's gifts of the written word and the pleasure of reading await you with a good book.

HEIFER PROJECT

CONTRATULATIONS! You, members of SUMC, have donated an ARK of $5000.00 and more to help the people of third world countries. We actually donated $6626.00. Because the recipients of animals are required to pass on an offspring of their animal to someone else, our donation is a gift that keeps on giving.

Food Partners Ministry

Our Food Donation Partners ministry is underway. We have trained several volunteers to pick up the frozen food from two different McDonald's in the area and deliver it to Shawnee Community Services to help feed those who are hungry and dealing with food insecurities. The donations from McDonald's include biscuits and other bread items, sausage and hamburger patties, chicken nuggets, folded egg portions, some desserts and pastries and more.

A note to our members and friends: If any of you are experiencing any stress or food insecurity and would like to have some of this food, please reach out to Changsu by email (changsu@shawneeumc.org) or cell (913) 752-7275 or Julie Italiano by email (jbitaliano4@gmail.com) or cell (913) 444-0126.. This will be kept confidential.

SUMC FOUNDATION

Any group wanting funding from the Foundation, please fill out a Fund Request Application available in church office.

PUTTING AWAY THE GREENS

We will be putting away the Christmas decorations on Saturday, January 14.
