QUIET!

Welcome Back to Another BobBlast!
Have you ever been in a loud and crowded room where everyone is talking all at once? And you suddenly realized you needed to find a quiet place? Even for a few minutes?

Well, that’s the idea I have for my latest works… a visually noisy, busy area next to a quiet, peaceful area. The duality of interconnecting shapes of busy-ness and quietness.

Here’s the good news: It makes no matter if the painting is a realistic tabletop still life or a colorful abstract… I prefer to paint the busy next to the quiet, peaceful area throughout the painting. That’s the approach I take, simultaneously making certain I stay focused on the title and overall theme of the work. For me, this works!

Early on, I was drawn to the Jackson Pollock and Willem de Kooning style of busy overall brushwork - not too many visually quiet areas, compared to Mark Rothko ’s softer overall color fields of quietness. (He might not agree with my assessment…)

And if you didn’t have enough to think about, along with this topic, let’s go back and think about duality. Duality can be explained as YIN YANG - a composition that is the duality of opposites - how they are different, yet connected.

This demo of Quiet Areas and Busy Areas shows how I approach a work of art and start. I enjoy to paint and play everyday with “what-ifs.”

Try quiet areas in your work. The busy areas become more busy. Shhhhhh…
