PTO ANNOUNCEMENTS

Teacher Appreciation Week

We are so excited to celebrate our amazing teachers this year! Teacher Appreciation Week will be held April 12-16th. The PTO has planned some special treats for our teachers all week long.

On Wednesday, April 14th, we are asking students to bring in a "Teacher Favorite" for your homeroom and MAPS teacher of the day. You can access the Teacher Favorites lists for ideas!

To help show our teachers our appreciation, please print out and draw a picture of you and your teacher HERE and then tell your teacher how awesome they are HERE!

GMC PTO Legacy of Excellence Award

The Legacy of Excellence Award was created in memory of Kristen Ames Melton, who tragically passed away in October, 2016. Kristen’s legacy is one of kindness, selflessness and tremendous work ethic. She never hesitated to go above and beyond for anyone and everyone, even those she had just met. Nominees for the Legacy of Excellence Award should embody the qualities that made Kristen so very special.

This award is given to one recipient each year, and we are delighted that Dogwood PTO VP of Hospitality, Nabiha Huda will be honored. Nabiha embodies all of these qualities and more and we are so lucky to have her at Dogwood! Nabiha will be recognized at the GMC STAR Awards on April 22, along with our STAR Award Recipients: Michelle Midha, Mrs. Boyce, and Nurse Madhi.

Field Day

We are so excited for our students to participate in Field Day this year! It’s always an unforgettable favorite for our Dogwood Dolphins. This year will look a little different from years past, with specialists and assistants as our lane volunteers and our PTO assisting with tent set up and equipment.

What hasn’t changed is that your help is needed to make Field Day a success! You will be receiving more information from your room parents on how you can help your class and details about your child’s Field Day. In addition, please take a look at the sign up genius for much needed donation items. Thank you for your help!

2021-2022 PTO Board Slate

Please join us in congratulating our newly elected PTO Board for the 2021-2022 school year. These nominees were presented and approved at the April 6th PTO Meeting.

We are still looking for an interested parent to take on the role of Communications and Yearbook. A brief description of each of these roles is below. If you are interested in serving on the PTO Board, please email Karen Viotti.

Communications: Provides current, pertinent information about PTO activities to Dogwood parents via the weekly newsletter and website.

Yearbook: Promotes sales of the yearbook and 5th grade ads. Assists the school Yearbook club and its faculty sponsors as necessary as well as manage class photographer volunteers to provide pictures throughout the year of classes, school activities/events, and groups. Chairs will also proof the yearbook prior to printing, and assist with delivery of the yearbooks in May.

TN Ready Testing

1507653767443.png

We need your help! The state mandated TN Ready testing will take place at Dogwood beginning on April 12th. The state has made in-person attendance for TN Ready a requirement for all students enrolled in a public school. Any school that does not meet 80% participation is subject to becoming a Priority School.

Testing Dates:

Grade 2: April 12-16

Grades 3-5: April 12-19

Attendance: This is always important and TN Ready is no different. We need your help to make certain that your child arrives on campus by 8:45 in order to participate in the assessment.

Breakfast: Please make sure that your child has breakfast, or arrives on campus in time for breakfast. Getting lots of sleep each evening is also a big help!

Test times: Testing blocks will run from 9:30-11:30 on April 12th, and 9:00-11:00 the rest of the testing window.

Early Check-Outs: A parent may check out a student at any time, as needed. Please understand that sessions may run longer than anticipated. In the event that a student is checked out during a subpart, the subpart may be invalidated or unanswered questions may count against the student.

Tardiness: In the event that a student is tardy during testing in grades 2-5, the student will remain in the lobby until the test concludes. We are unable to allow your child to enter his/her classroom when testing is in progress.

Make-up Opportunities: This will be provided in the event that your child is absent or tardy, but this can never replicate the opportunity to test with your child's teacher and with his/her peers.

Thank you,

Dogwood Administration
