Digital books hop to Overdrive's house + a handy new catalog app + virtual learning resources
And more! Welcome to your September Library Update from NKCPL.
Use RBdigital? Those ebooks are on the move!
Starting September 8, RBdigital ebooks and audiobooks will be available in the Library’s Overdrive collection. This means that you'll have access to all the same great books, just on a new digital shelf! Find this collection on your phone or device via the Overdrive and Libby apps (and on desktop via nkcpl.org > Missouri Libraries 2 Go). Need help finding or using these apps? Drop us a line or give us a call--we're standing by to help!
Browsing Missouri Evergreen is easy with our app!
Heard the word? Now you can download a Missouri Evergreen app to search the shared library catalog for ME’s member libraries — more than 50 (and counting!). You can browse titles, place holds, view your library account, and more. Click here for links to both iOS and Android versions, or visit your device’s app store and search “Missouri Evergreen.”
Starting school at home this September?
Two things to say about that. Well, three. First, bless you! It’s possible that this isn’t the journey that you’d anticipated this year. Two: You can do it! And three, we can help. Head to nkcpl.org for a slew of resources designed to enrich and enhance whatever learning adventure you’re embarking on right now.
Need actual, hold-in-your-hand books? Get our new catalog app (see facing page for info), and we’ll make it happen via Curbside. Want digital books? Check out Libby/Missouri Libraries 2 Go — plus Candlewick Press, Abdo Digital Bookshelf, 12-Story Library, and more! And there’s lots of other good stuff too, like links to cool virtual tours, fun online Storytimes, and creative distance learning resources for students of all ages. Go to nkcpl.org to explore the Library’s offerings, and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions or materials requests!
Bonus (Bonus!) Book Walk Fun: Little Red Hot!
Things are upside right now, so we're throwing convention to the wind and extending our erstwhile *summer* Book Walk into the fall, just because we can! (We're wild and crazy, what can we say.) For this month's bonus-bonus Book Walk story, we’re so pleased to feature Little Red Hot, which is illustrated by local artist Laura Huliska-Beith. Laura has illustrated more than a dozen children's books; she also painted the stunning, full-scale murals in the Library’s Children’s department. Amazing! You can stroll and read this sweet children's title--and enjoy some of Laura's charming illustrations--along the Library parking lot's perimeter all month long. Happy September, all.
Zoom into these September NKCPL events!
While we're continuing to hold off on in-person meetings and events for now, we are offering a handful of new Zoom sessions in this month, including Chair Yoga (three Wednesdays/month @ 10 am), Mat Yoga (three Tuesdays/month @ 6:30 pm) and Medicare Explained (twice monthly; dates will vary). For September class dates and times, and to register, go to nkcpl.org. Once you sign up for a class, keep your eyes peeled for the Zoom link, which we will email separately prior to the event.
ABC Photo Find: a Fall Creative Challenge!
And lastly, a little something just for fun. Ever been on a walk and noticed quirky letter shapes out in the wide world, like maybe a stick that looks like a “Y,” or a swing set frame that forms the letter “A”? This fall, we want to find (and share) the whole alphabet in nature/cityscapes! The idea? Keep your eyes peeled for letter shapes in interesting places (could be inside or out), then send those finds to abrown@nkcpl.org. We’ll share them via our site for general happiness/enjoyment purposes. Multiple submissions welcome. Letter-spotters of all ages are welcome to submit!
