Message from the CEO
Louise and Shawna
I’m sure you will agree that in these challenging times it’s easier to keep a positive mindset when you can immerse yourself in good news, even for a few hours. I certainly didn’t hesitate to take the opportunity to go live at NI 2021 last week and interview Texas-based nurse economist, tech enthusiast and podcasting superstar Shawna Butler, host of 'See You Now'.  Shawna shines a light on real people changing the status quo in health. Internationally, “nursepreneurs” have emerged to develop truly human-centred healthcare solutions. NI 2021 delegates called Shawna an inspiration and someone they “could listen to for hours”. Shawna is just one of the outstanding global nursing and midwifery leaders representing 27 countries at the two-week congress. There’s still time to register and listen to all the content now or on demand.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the Board elections by voting for their preferred candidates. It was a record year for nominations and a reflection of our passionate and engaged membership. We will be announcing the results at the AGM on Thursday 2 September.

Nursing and genomics
Nursing.Midwifery community talks genomics: This month's theme is focusing on the impact of genomics on nursing and midwifery. The Garvan Global Genomics Report back in 2018 claimed that genomics was disrupting the healthcare sector through affordable, rapid DNA sequencing, even causing a revolution in medicine and healthcare globally. The CoP has released an editorial on the role of the nurse and midwife in this space.
