Update: 10/2/2020
Dear CCDS Families,

Butte County Public Health Department issued a press release(9/29/20) announcing Butte County has moved from Tier 1/Purple to a less-restrictive Tier 2/Red category of the State’s COVID-19 Blueprint for a Safer Economy. You are welcome to also follow the details on the Butte County Public Health COVID dashboard. Updates are made on Tuesdays.

If Butte County is able to remain in Tier 2/Red for two additional weeks, we will have an opportunity to transition to a hybrid “part in-person/part distance learning” instructional model.  COVID safety protocols, including the wearing of facial coverings, will be in place. Please also review the Return to School page on our Website.

It is necessary for us to remain in Tier 2/Red for 14 days before we would be able to return to campus. We will keep you posted as a reopening date becomes clear. We are hopeful it will be by the end of October if we are able to stay in Tier 2/Red for the required amount of time.

October 1, 2020 Survey: Please take 2 minutes to fill out the current survey. This will help us plan our next steps. We would like to hear from all families by Monday morning, October 5th. Additional details are within the survey. We have a lot of planning to do and additional information will be coming soon, but this is the first step. Thank you!

Team Meetings (Conferences): A quick note about conferences... these will be different than years past. With being all online, so much of our information-gathering we do at school has shifted. The teachers are certainly enjoying getting to know students in a unique way this year, and it's also important to note that it's different. As one teacher put it, "I have seen more kittens and baby siblings than I would ever see in class, but I haven't been able to see how students approach their work and how they engage with challenges in the same way as I would in the classroom."

We're reframing so many things in our world right now and conferences can be added to that list! Your child's team meeting (conference) will be a time to connect together with your child's teacher, share successes, hear about long-term grade level goals, discuss challenges, and provide insight beyond the little square in the Zoom call. This will be a great time to bring adults who care about our students together for a meaningful conversation.

Heart To Heart PBL Week: We are so excited to announce a very unique week for students the week of October 12-16. Our amazing music, science, and art specialist teachers are developing a weeklong project for students in TK-6th grade where they will become immersed in the project Heart to Heart: Unlocking the Possibilities of Meaningful Connections with Each Other. Students will take a deep dive into the questions: How do we share happiness with each other and how do we connect to each other in meaningful ways during this time of social distancing? Students will have opportunities for voice and choice through the project and will share their learning at the end of the project. In addition to the Project Week, we are creating an at-home Wonder Wednesday for that week as well!

All of the assignments and activities will be sent to students via Altitude Learning cards. All Morning Meetings will remain in place with the classroom teacher, but small group meetings will be on pause for that week. The only exception is 1:1 RTI support in the younger grades. If your child has a unique schedule with education specialist support, look for more information from them. As students progress through their project activity cards, they will have opportunities to explore concepts through science, art, and music activities.

Finally, as we prepare for additional flexibility within that Red Tier, we all take on a piece of that community responsibility to slow the spread of COVID-19 and support the reopening of schools. Please continue to practice hand hygiene, cover your mouth and nose when in public places, follow CDPH guidelines for gatherings, and stay home if you are sick.

Thank you all for your continued support of your students and of CCDS. We appreciate you and look forward to the events in the weeks ahead: Team Meetings, Heart to Heart Project Week, and potential reopening of campus.

In Gratitude,
Wendy
