TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
A DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT by Pastor Scott

On Sunday I compared the difference between the cacophony of a Jr. High orchestra concert and the beauty of a symphony with seasoned musicians. Let me now continue to build on that illustration.

The University of Colorado is known for its music department. I’ve been there often. Wonderfully gifted musicians have come through the instrumental and choral programs there.

In the music buildings there are long hallways with seemingly countless small practice rooms. When the doors to the rooms are closed and you walk down the hallway it hums with muted sounds emanating from each practice room. Now, suppose you were to open all of the practice room doors during the height of practice. Can you imagine the sounds that would emanate and reverberate off those walls? The sound would be jarring, shrill, discordant!!

Yet those gifted music students with the perfect music score and led by a conductor will produce wonderfully orchestrated music.

Now, to carry my illustration from Sunday further, all of those now polished musicians started out in a Jr. High Orchestra. They all started as unpolished, inexperienced, unskilled music students. Without their hard work, hours of practice, their sticking to their lessons, and their years of commitment to improve and hone their craft, we’d have lost a generation of wonderful music and talented musicians!

Like these musicians, the next generations of faith are fostered through our investing in them; in our finding the best ways to reach them and encouraging them to experience God, and grow to know and serve God and invest in the generations that follow them.

If we fail to look beyond ourselves, we will fail to reach and develop the faith of the next generations. Here at PGCC, there won’t be the very next generation to take up the mission of this church unless we give them a chance!

Psalm 71:18. NLT says,
Now that I am old and gray,
do not abandon me, O God.
Let me proclaim your power to this new generation,
your mighty miracles to all who come after me.

Let me ask you something, as we start a ministry to reach 50-70 year-olds, are you willing to not only nod affirmatively, but also take a decided stance to encourage them, celebrate their progress, and champion their mission?

Will you cheer on whatever it will take to have PGCC reach the younger senior set? Will you do that?

Will you be a visionary for the church’s mission to proclaim God’s power to this next generation or will you be an anchor of resistance?

If we do these things, our church will remain healthy and robust. We will experience the thrill of seeing God change people’s lives. We will experience the power of God accomplishing His mission for PGCC to share the life-changing message of Jesus Christ, and helping people become Jesus’ fully devoted followers.

If we do not cheer on the next generation, well, the Jr. High orchestra will never become a symphony blessing the world with the glorious music of the Good News of Jesus and our church will have no future.

Reaching the next generation of seniors and beyond will take prayer, wisdom from God, faithful and committed leadership, and a church body that is seeking to believe and trust God for PGCC’s future. Will you do that with me?

MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH

Will & Linda Wakeling
Jesus Film Project, Cru

The Jesus Film Project is an evangelistic outreach of Campus Crusade for Christ (Cru). The Jesus Film is a 2-hour dramatized story of Jesus based on Luke’s Gospel. The Jesus Film is continually being translated into new languages and shown worldwide, especially to unreached people groups who have not heard the Gospel. In the first half of 2021, JFP provided over 198 million views of Jesus Films! In 2020 there were over 30 million reported decisions for Christ from viewing Jesus Films globally!

Will and Linda Wakeling work full time at the Jesus Film Project. Will organizes mission trips to show the film worldwide and recruits and trains people for the trips. He also coordinates with local missionaries and churches to ensure follow-up for new believers.

Linda works on the JFP Middle East team to promote and support evangelism in certain countries, some closed to the Gospel. She has been involved with the production of additional videos that share the Gospel and answers questions. She has succeeded in getting the Jesus Film and other JFP films aired in Turkey, reaching 80 million people in 2020.

When international travel was halted by Covid, JFP made a major shift to digital ministry. They had already been developing and testing digital evangelism, but in 2020 they put their full focus on upgrading this part of their ministry. The Jesus Film Project now provides virtual evangelism webinars and virtual training. Many have received Christ through these webinars.

A recent example of the Jesus Film’s effectiveness comes from Southern Asia where a tribe living in an isolated primitive area, known as the Sauria Paharia, with a population of approximately 52,000, viewed the Jesus Film. Over 30,000 of their people are reported to have declared faith in Christ as a result!

The Jesus Film Project is currently preparing a new Jesus film in the heart language of the Native American people, to be released for viewing later in 2021 (see Jesusfilm.org to see the trailer).

Your giving to PGCC helps to support the Wakelings and the incredible ministry of the Jesus Film Project.
BAPTISMS
In August we had the joy of baptizing two of our church family.
Kailee B. wrote, "I remember the distinct moment when I received Jesus as my Lord and Savior. I was 5 years old at church and I just had a strong feeling and so I prayed to ask him into my heart."
Laura Birdwell wrote, "I was 16 years old when I accepted Christ at a revival...God has blessed me every day, every hour of my life...Since coming to this church God has been saying to me to be baptized

NEW EDUCATIONAL ASSISTANCE PROGRAM
to Support our Church Staff

We are excited to announce the implementation of the PGCC Employee Educational Assistance Program (EEAP). Employees of PGCC who are going to school can be reimbursed for tuition, fees and books up to $5,250 per calendar year. This is yet another way we as a church family can support, develop and bless our church staff as they bless us.

The EEAP will be funded from the donations you give to the PGCC General Fund. Employees who request funds will need to apply and meet eligibility guidelines. Applications will be reviewed by the EEAP Administrative Group comprised of members from the Leadership Team, Personnel Committee and the Lead Pastor. If you have questions about EEAP, you are encouraged to speak to a member of the Personnel Committee or Leadership Team.
