In celebration of National Dog Day on August 26th, Old Sheepdog Brewery highlighted six of our dogs on their cans. With the help of this promotion, two of the dogs, Justice and Doc, were adopted together the same week. We're so happy for both of them and their new family!

|
If there was ever a dog that was put in your path to put a smile on your face, it's Justice. Justice was originally transferred from the city shelter in 2018. He was subsequently adopted, but wound up at Animal Services two years later as an unclaimed pet.
Justice is blind, but he doesn't need eyes for recognizing a good heart. Despite not finding forever love the first time around, he is determined to give people endless chances at seeing his potential. Is that not poetic justice?
Justice is incredibly friendly with everyone he meets, including dogs. He's great on a leash but is dependent on some light tugging for guidance. He's very confident while out and about but may bump into things frequently until he gets the layout of the room or yard. He may not be able to see but his nose works just fine, put a puzzle feeder in front of him and watch him gobble it up!

Doc was originally transferred from the city shelter as an unclaimed pet, so it's unknown how he wound up there without his family. He was often overlooked because of his age but this dog has more spirit than a puppy. As a lap dog, Doc doesn't just sit and enjoy your pets, he will lean into you and give you a grateful look that melts your heart into mush. His soul is connecting with yours! Everyone wants that instant connection when looking to adopt, which is totally understandable, and while Doc's love is earned, that good feeling you get when you've earned his trust is unparalleled.

PUMPKIN
Now that September is here, you can load up on all your favorite pumpkin desserts, but our patch is the only place you will find the sweetest "Pumpkin"
that will leave you feeling guilt-free.
|
Pumpkin was originally surrendered in November 2019 as a stray kitten found with a limp in his back leg. After taking his time to recover under Foster Care, Pumpkin is now ready to find his fur-ever home in time for Halloween (Jack-o-lanterns are all he talks about these days). He has shown to do well with dogs and would prefer a home with older children.
If you’re interested in meeting this gourd-geous cat, submit your adoption appointment request today!

The Humane Society of El Paso Receives Gift In Memory of Estelle Goldman from the Rotwein Family:
|
|
In 1968, drivers on North Mesa were surprised to see a large billboard which read: “She's too old for Camp. She’s too young for Medicare, ‘What will ESTELLE do next?’” When an El Paso Herald Post reporter interviewed Nathan Goldman, Estelle’s husband, he explained that he had used this method to mark his wife’s graduation from the University of Texas at El Paso. Her education had been interrupted by caring for her family, and it required eight years of off and on attendance at classes for her to finally win her degree in fine arts.
“What will ESTELLE do next?” The answer was “So much!!!” For Estelle, there was so much to be squeezed from every day, and she worked hard to squeeze as much as she could into each day for the last nearly 95 years. Throughout her life, Estelle believed that if we live our lives with commitment, with dedication and with love, the world will be, despite the challenges, a beautiful place. She was the rock of her family, and cherished her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren. Estelle committed herself to each of them, focused on giving them the strength and the ability to succeed. She lived the values she had learned growing up, especially the importance of education and connection to community.
|
|
Estelle modeled both, nurturing a love for reading and intellectual curiosity, and committing so much of her time and energy to the broader community. As a team, she and her husband, Nathan, were co-founders of the El Paso Diabetes Association and helped developed the Amigo Air Show. Estelle was also a life-long dog lover and supporter of the Humane Society of El Paso.
Of course, one of her lifelong passions was her art. As a potter and a painter, her contribution to the world was elevated through her art. In honor of Estelle and her legacy, the Humane Society of El Paso will use this wonderful gift to support our education programs for children and youth.

The Petco Foundation Invites Adopters to Share Their Stories and Help Make Holiday Wishes Come True for Animal Welfare Organizations.
This year, COVID-19 highlighted the importance of pets and how their bond helps make every day better. To celebrate the life changing power of adoption, the Petco Foundation, in partnership with BOBS from Skechers, has launched its annual Holiday Wishes grant campaign—inviting adopters to share how their pets have changed their lives for the better, and help give the Humane Society of El Paso a chance to receive up to $100,000 in lifesaving funds.
Through September 23, adopters can submit their stories at petcofoundation.org/holidaywishes. Stories should highlight how their pets have changed their adopters’ lives for the better, in big and small ways, and should celebrate the love of their adopted pets. Submissions must include four photos to illustrate the story and can include video as well. Adopters must include the organization’s point of contact, email and phone number in their submissions*.
Visit the Holiday Wishes home page for more information and to read stories from previous winners. The deadline to submit a Holiday Wishes story is September 23, 2020, 11 AM MDT. Winners will be announced during the holiday season.
