ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Music Department would like to express its sincere appreciation to the Marion Bradmon Memorial Fund for graciously contributing to the recent tuning of Heart of Longmont’s wonderful organ.
CARD SHOWER FOR SHIRLEY THOMPSON
Shirley Thompson will be celebrating her 90th birthday on November 29th. As a long-time member of this church, she would really enjoy cards from people in the congregation during the month of November. She has been an integral part of the music program participating in chancel choir, Wesley Anns, bell choir, and as a soloist. United Methodist Women was an important part of her life. She was a district president, a member of Sarah Circle, and chaired Holiday Fair. She also started and organized the ROAM group.

Shirley really misses coming to church services. If you could include a memory or a short anecdote in your card she would love reading it with her family. Her address is: 1207 Purdue Drive, Longmont, CO 80503. Thank you so much!
Daylight Savings ends this Sunday, November 1. Remember to set your clocks back!
Parking Lot Communion
November 1 at Noon
Weather permitting, we will be offering another HoL Parking Lot Communion on November 1, at 12PM, after our regular YouTube worship. We will have individual cups of juice and wafers that will be passed to participants in their cars. Masks are required and we will observe social distancing. Participants will remain in their cars.

If you plan to attend, please fill out this short survey to let us know so we can be fully prepared: https://forms.gle/nGXnBt4WkLU1f4r39

November Compassion Offering

Special Sunday Offerings
by Jan Timmons

Since we have missed most of the special Sunday offerings due to the pandemic, the compassion offering for November will be evenly divided between these special offerings which are: Peace with Justice, World Communion, Native American, UMCOR, and United Methodist Student Day.

Peace with Justice encourages living the gospel of peace.

Native American Day supports education for Native American leaders.

Young adults are aided through the World Communion which supports their growth as leaders.
The United Methodist emergency relief fund is supported through contributions to the UMCOR fund.

On campus ministries are supported through the United Methodist Student Day offering.

All of these plus Human Relations Day are special offerings that are taken through out the year. We were meeting on Human Relations Sunday, so that is not included with this group.

Thank you to everyone who has given so generously to the compassion offerings this year. Many people were helped because of your generosity!
SPRC’s Mission for Community Outreach 2020
by Anna Suppe

The CoronaVirus Pandemic has encouraged the Heart of Longmont and its members to rethink how we reach out to our community. First, there was the hand sanitizer and toilet paper scare of March. Then, libraries and bookstores shut down, leaving people stranded at home with nothing but Netflix. During this whirlwind time, the Staff Parish Relations Committee hatched a plan. Pastor Dave had asked each church committee to prayerfully consider coming up with a mission in addition to our regular commitments. What could our mission be? What service could we possibly hope to offer this year, when it seemed everyone was losing their minds?

Our grand master plan: A Free Little Library. The church already has one set up by the basketball courts that serves the Wild Plum families. The latch was busted, and though Ellen Winkelman has kept it diligently stocked with many types of books, SPRC wanted to help spruce it up a bit. So, we fixed the latch. And then reached out to Gordon Yoder for a second one. He masterfully crafted an adorable Free Little Library that looks like a church! For those of you who don’t know, A Free Little Library looks like a gigantic birdhouse installed by the curb. In it are usually books, free for anyone passing by to take. Homes and businesses across Longmont and the World participate in the not-for-profit, Free Little Library program.

SPRC is delighted to announce that the Heart of Longmont will soon install a second Free Little Library at the south entrance on 11th Avenue. It will be stocked with children and adult books in English and Spanish. Non-perishable food items will also be in there, free to take. After the toilet paper and hand sanitizer scare of March, we have also decided that those items should probably be in there, too.

During a time when the church doors are locked, the windows shuttered against the unseen enemy that is the Virus, it seems impossible to keep church members in the loop, much less provide community support. But thanks to the bright ideas, generous hearts, and helping hands of SPRC and other church members, the Heart of Longmont can shine in the community once more. This Free Little Library will be a window that Christ’s love can shine through. Now, during times of turmoil, and for many years to come.
New Adventurers Book Study
The Adventurer's Sunday school will be starting a new study: The Power of Love, by Bishop Michael Curry, on November 8th. This book is a compilation of 6 sermons that the Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church, Michael Curry, has written and shared. Many people know Bishop Curry as being the person who officiated the wedding of Prince Harry and Meagan Markel. Bishop Curry spoke this year at the Leadership Institute at the Church of the Resurrection UMC. He was inspiring and uplifting.

We will be discussing the first sermon on Nov. 8th and would love for you to join us via Zoom. The book is available on Amazon.

Christmas Baskets for Wild Plum Families
COVID has cancelled our beloved Angel Tree tradition—but WAIT, there is good news! This gives us an opportunity to do something new and different that will create a bigger impact!

This year Heart of Longmont will be blessing Wild Plum families with a basket of supplies encouraging family time. The Kids of HOL are asking each church family who can to adopt a Wild Plum family for Christmas. (Our congregation has 170 families. WP serves 65 families at HOL and 245 families program wide. We’ll start with the HOL families and expand as the response allows.)

If you’re creative, this is the project for you! Spread your creativity to your heart’s content!

Even if you’re not creative, this is still the project for you! Reach out to a member of our team for ideas. Cookie making supplies, family game night gifts, a movie night kit are just a few examples. You can also check out ideas on the internet!

If you don’t have the time to put a basket together, don't worry! This is still the project for you! With a donation of any amount, we will put together a basket on your behalf. (We are estimating $50 for each basket.)

You can start anytime you like, but ALL baskets MUST be at HOL no later than MONDAY DECEMBER 14th.

We will have specific collection days and times to be published after Thanksgiving.

If you have any questions, or want information regarding family sizes and children's ages, contact Misty Bone.

A PICTURE IS WORTH
A THOUSAND WORDS
2021 will be an exciting year as we celebrate 150 years of the Methodist Church in Longmont. Recording our history is an important part of our celebration. Pictures will help highlight our history. If you have pictures related to church event, a committee would like to review them for possible use in our 150th historic booklet. You may leave them at the church office or contact Ann Yoder (303 772-8294) for more information.
Asylum Project
October Compassion Offering
Dave and Jan Perry are providing asylum for two South American young women and helping them with the legal processes they need to remain in the United States. Our Asylum Project is supporting the Perrys as they provide food and lodging and other necessities for Francys and Taylor. The Heart of Longmont partners with Left Hand Church in Longmont to support this project. Here is a recent update provided by Dave Perry:

“The girls are doing great. Left hand church now "meets" Sunday at 5pm. The girls choose to participate in both HOL and LHC worship services. They have not missed any of these services and they pray with Jan and myself multiple times each day.

Pastor David, the girls want you to know how much they appreciate you sending your sermons in Español to them each week! They have made great progress with ESL classes and they volunteer often to say grace at meals; partly in English. They have been such a blessing to both of us!!

The CU Law Clinic is back from the summer break and there are now three law students assigned to their asylum case. One of these students is Jose, who is their good friend from Out Boulder who all 3 of us know well. Violeta, the Law professor is again involved. They had to go to the Peruvian Consulate to have POA documents drawn up for and sent to a relative who will collect copies of papers that were taken away from them by ICE.”

Your gifts for the Asylum Project help to defray expenses for Taylor and Francys. Mark you check “Asylum Offering” or “October Compassion Offering.”
It's no trick! Heart of Longmont Children and Family Ministries invites you
to pop in for some Halloween fun!

This will be a fun, safe, and socially-controlled event held this Halloween, Saturday, October 31, from 1PM to 3PM.

This event will be outdoors in our parking lot. Masks will be required.

Kids will be able to pick up a goodie bag, a craft kit, and we'll have a couple locations for taking family photos. It's sure to be an afternoon of Halloween fun!
Registration opens Friday, October 16.
How can you help with our Halloween Event?

We need volunteers to drop candy, trinkets, and fun giveaway items (e.g. party pack sized Play-Doh or slime) in the barrel in the West Airlock between Friday, October 16, and Sunday, October 25. We are also allowing 100 people to register for this event in 20 minute increments with 10 minutes of cleaning between groups, so we need some volunteers to help out during the event!

The times we need volunteers are:

Set-Up—12-12:45PM—3 Volunteers
First Hour—1-2PM—5 Volunteers
Second Hour—2-3PM—5 Volunteers
Clean-Up—3-3:45PM—3 Volunteers

If you want to volunteer, or have any questions, please contact Misty Bone.
An Advent Gift From Heart of Longmont
Have you checked your calendar? There are only 2 months left until Christmas and a little over a month until we begin celebrating Advent! Yes, this will be an Advent and Christmas unlike any other, and we want to help you celebrate the season in new ways and to feel more connected as a church family. This year, we want to give each household an Advent Box, filled with devotionals and activities to make the most out of our weeks of Hope, Love, Joy, and Peace. This is NOT just for families, but for every single household.

These boxes are free, a gift of love from your church, and will be available for pick-up at church on two occasions: Wednesday, November 18th from 5-7 pm and Sunday, November 22nd from 12-2 pm. If you are unable to swing by the church to pick up your Advent Box, we have some HOL angels that will deliver to your door step.
