Upcoming Events & News

Holy Week Services: Tonight (Thursday, April 14th) at 7:30, we will have the first of three services referred to as the Triduum. The three services of the Triduum are the Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil services. They are actually treated as one service in three parts. Tonight’s service commemorates the Last Supper and ends with the stripping of the altar symbolizing Christ’s absence from his disciples after he is arrested. There is no dismissal; we depart in silence. Our service resumes on Good Friday (at noon or 5:30) and we remember Christ’s death on the cross. Again, we depart in silence; there is no dismissal. On Saturday we light a new Paschal Candle which brings the light of Christ into the darkness of our church. The congregation’s candles are lit from this candle and passed from one person to the next reminding us that Christ’s light is to be shared. Then, we declare the end of Lent and celebrate Easter. The Vigil begins at 8:00 pm and incense will be used (this is the only Easter service in which it is used).

Good Friday Offering: The 100th Anniversary of the Good Friday Offering will be celebrated this year. Our Good Friday offering will be given to the Anglican Province of Jerusalem and the Middle East to support a number of missions there.

Rector’s Vacation: Beginning Monday, April 18th, Fr. Jim will be on vacation for one week. Fr. Gene will celebrate the Eucharist and lead the service on the 24th.

Mountain Lights Event: Camp Mitchell will celebrate its reopening April 29 - May 1. You may attend some or all of the events that weekend. The main events will be held on Saturday with a chapel time in the morning and activities all day: Arts-N-Crafts, Camp Q&A, Hammock Hangout, Pickleball Tournament, Hikes, Cooking in Bloom, Horseshoes, Corn Hole, Slackline, Gaga Ball, and more. For more information contact Margaret McLellan at margaret@campmitchell.org or 479-285-5911 or go to the camp’s website at www.campmitchell.org for links to the register or see the items being auctioned (virtually) and the drawing for 7 day accommodations in Tuscany, Italy.

Camp Mitchell Registrations:  Summer Camp is officially back and our spots are filling up fast, so now is the time to register. For more information go to www.campmitchell.org. Mission: Our Lenten Book Study group has been discussing mission and how St. Paul’s might serve our community. We discussed expanding our community meals and will schedule a meeting with all involved to explore some options. In addition, we also discussed a way to provide more support to our members. On the church’s prayer list we pray for eight members each week who are not able to attend services in person.  In addition we pray for members who are at various stages of healing from surgeries and illnesses. Our study group decided to form a Care Team here at St. Paul’s to support our members in tangible ways.

Care Team Being Formed: As noted above, we are now forming a Care Team, made of up of members who are available to help for as little as two hours a month doing any (or all) of the following: visit, run errands, provide transportation to appointments, send cards, and/or make phone calls. Fr. Jim has scheduled a dinner and meeting at 6:00 pm Sunday, May 1st in the Parish Hall for all who wish to join the team. Volunteers will be trained and supported. Please let Fr. Jim or Katie in the office know if you are interested and if you will attend the dinner.

Stained-Glass Window: A memorial gift from Louis Kealer’s family, coupled with money from the Men’s Group and an increasing number of gifts from parishioners is making it possible to repair and restore the large stained-glass window above the entrance to our church. The vestry, at its March meeting, approved a bid from Soos Stained Glass to complete this project. David Soos, out of Little Rock, is considered one of the top Stained-Glass craftsman in the Southwest.

Giving to St. Paul’s: For those attending online, there are three ways to give: you may mail your gifts to St. Paul’s at PO Box 2255, Batesville, AR. 72503, or make an online contribution by going to our website (stpaulsbatesville.org) and by following the link to make a contribution.
