Welcome Rosie Strawn: Our New Communications Manager


We are pleased to announce Rosie Strawn will join us as our new Communications Manager on February 13. Rosie, a child of Covenant and a long-time active member, graduated from Davidson College in 2013 with a B.A. in Anthropology. Since graduation, she has held positions with Charlotte Bilingual Preschool, County Commissioner Susan B. Harden and Roof Above, where she focused on communications, organization, fundraising and donor relations. Rosie’s experience with nonprofits, her knowledge of technology, and love of Covenant Church is a welcome addition to our Communications Department.

Wednesday Nights

Open Table Dinner and Programs

Open Table Dinners, prepared by Chef Johnny, are served from 5:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. Cost is $9 for adults and youth in the sixth grade and above; $6 for children two years old through the fifth grade, with a family maximum cost of $36. Tonight's dinner includes BBQ chicken, mac & cheese, green beans, rolls and brownies. Gluten-free meal options are always available. Programming is available for children, youth and adults.

  • 5:45-6:30 children’s choir for K-3 graders/BLAST for 4-5 graders
  • 6:30-7:30 children’s choir for 4-5 graders/BLAST for K-3 graders

A Faithful Response to Gun Violence

Volunteer Opportunities

RITI: All Hands on Deck

Monday, February 13


Covenant welcomes our neighbors experiencing homelessness every Tuesday night and second Monday of December through March by hosting Room in the Inn. On Monday, February 13, the congregation has an opportunity to work together to ensure our neighbors have a warm, tasty meal, breakfast the next morning, and a bag lunch all wrapped up in Covenant hospitality. Texas Hash for Roof Above


On the fifth Tuesday of the month (four times a year), volunteers from Covenant serve donated Texas Hash casseroles to more than 300 homeless men who rely on the shelter. Our first date to serve in 2023 is January 31. Casseroles and desserts are needed, and anyone age 16 and above can serve at the shelter.


Texas Hash and desserts can be prepared at home at any time and stored in the church freezer in the Fellowship Hall. Making Texas Hash is easy and a fun activity with the kids. Learn more and sign up.

Serving Meals to our Friends at Roof Above


Covenant participates in a long time partnership between area churches and Roof Above by providing cook teams and meal services to guests of the Roof Above Levine Men's Shelter. Once per month, typically on the 1st Monday night and the 4th Wednesday morning, we need volunteers to help prepare food, serve and clean up. This is a great opportunity to provide a hot meal and fellowship to these neighbors. It is a meaningful and enjoyable time. No special skills requiredLearn more and sign up.

Volunteer with Children's Ministry


Teaching Sunday School is a wonderful way for our youngest disciples to learn about God’s love. We need volunteers to take part in this joyous tradition. January opportunities available. Sign up to teach one of our classes! Activities and lessons are provided for you.

Tutor at Highland Renaissance Academy

Tuesdays or Thursdays

January 31 through April 6

11:50 a.m. - 12:50 p.m.


Tutor three Highland Renaissance Academy Kindergarten students in 20-minute sessions over a 10-week period. Read a book, teach letter names and sounds, and ask questions. It's easy and fun! To learn more or to sign up, email Betty Graybeal.

Open Table Cashier/Server Needed

Wednesday nights, 4:30 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.


We need volunteers to help our staff serve dinner or assist the cashier during Open Table Wednesday nights through April. Learn more and sign up.

Avery County Mission Trip

March 29 - April 1

Covenant Preschool 2023-24 Enrollment


Registration for the 2023-2024 preschool year is now through February 4. The enrollment application and additional information can be found online at CovenantPresby.org/preschool. Individual tours may be scheduled by calling 704.333.8658.

Pickleball

Every Thursday, 1:30 - 3:30 pm

Collecting Calendars, Cards, and Notepads


A collection bin is in the Welcome Center for new 2023 calendars, greeting cards and scratch pads to be given to residents at Moore Place, Hope Haven, and Center of Hope as well as clients of Crisis Assistance Ministry. Any size and style of calendars will be welcomed.

People In Mission

Summer 2023


Calling all Covenant college students! Each summer, the Mission and Outreach Ministry at Covenant sponsors an internship called People in Mission. This internship is intended for rising college sophomores, juniors, and seniors who are concerned about the various social issues that face Charlotte: the looming housing crisis, systemic racism, food insecurity, mass incarceration, etc. Each intern will be placed at one of Covenant's mission partners, working with the nonprofit's administration behind the scenes while also serving on the front lines.  For more information and to apply, visit CovenantPresby.org/in-the-community-and-the-world.
