The Fourth Sunday After the Epiphany
29 January 2023
Candlemass in Atlanta
Wednesday, 1 February
6.30 pm
@ Church of Our Saviour
in Atlanta
This year we will have a joint celebration of Candlemass with the Church of Our Saviour in the Virginia Highlands neighborhood of Atlanta (directions). Bring a candle from home if you would like it blessed during Mass.

Candlemass is a celebration of the Light of Christ come into the world, an the official end to the Nativity cycle of the church year. Candlemass celebrates the presentation of Jesus in the temple, Simeon's song of Jesus as a light to the nations and the glory of the people of God. Traditionally parishioners bring candles that are blessed during the liturgy that they then take back home as a symbol of the light of God we carry into the world. Those blessed candles, each time they are lighted in our homes, shine with God's promise of light and joy that scatters the darkness of our winter days and the shadows of sin and hopelessness that can often surround us. It will be a great chance to forge friendships with our sister parish in Atlanta and to celebrate with Mother Melanie in her new church home. If you are interested in carpooling, please contact Father Tripp (link) or Dan Burrows (link).

Sunday School Time Change
Beginning this weekend, Sunday school will begin at 9:30 am.

The 20 or so minute gap between the ending of the 8:30 Mass and the start of Sunday school wasn't working well, especially for our younger students. After consulting with parents and teachers, all agreed the earlier start time would be helpful. If you have any questions, please speak with Kristen Weems, director of Catechesis program, or Father Tripp.
Have You Pledged for 2023?
Have you submitted your pledge for 2023? Our continued ministry depends on the pledged contributions of each household - so your pledge is vital for 2023. As of the start of 2023, we are 20% (or 31 pledges) short of our goal. You can submit a pledge by completing a pledge card at church on Sunday morning or online using the link below. Please help keep St Columba's strong and submit your pledge today.

The 50-Day Bible Challenge: Journey with Saint John
Sunday Mornings, 9.45 am
Sunday school resumes this weekend at 9.45 am for all ages. The adult forum begins with The 50-Day Bible Challenge: the Gospel of St John. The 'challenge' is to read the entire gospel of St John over the coming 50 days, between now and Ash Wednesday. We'll discuss portions of the gospel on Sundays as well as the how the bible came to be, the uniqueness of St John's gospel, and why Scripture study is an important part of the Christian life.

There is a book that may be helpful to your study which can be purchased on Amazon (LINK) but all you really need is a bible! Join the challenge and discover a deep connection with God!
