Hello Class of 2024,
Happy first day of classes! Today, you will go through a significant number of firsts as you complete the day as you find your way around campus. This will be your first experience with higher education. Your first introduction to your professors and upperclassmen. For some of you, you may be the first of your family to go to college. The first time you have lived somewhere other than your hometown and have been away from your family. Your first time living with a roommate. Whatever firsts you encounter today, you are certainly not alone.
For Tulane, this is our first time beginning a year in a global pandemic. There are new guidelines and protocols to follow, new ways to enter buildings and visit our peers, and new people we meet every day. As we learn new ways of learning and living we know that we'll make mistakes along the way, but that should not deter us from apologizing and making right to those affected. Use this time to find out what works for you and who can help you during this time - help is alway around the corner at Tulane.

After months of planning and collaboration across the greater Tulane community, the Office of New Student & Leadership Programs is proud to present the 2020 New Student Guide. The guide is available online via our main page website and serves as a First-Year Resource for a fulfilling first year experience!
Contents include finding your way around campus and the great city of New Orleans; ways to find your people and interesting opportunities at Tulane; incredible advice from your peers who've been in your shoes before - with special sections for transfer and international students, navigating living on & off campus; and how to live your best life!

DID YOU KNOW... 83% of the Tulane Class of 2023 said they came from more than 500 miles away from New Orleans?
For over 50 years, Tulane has participated in The Freshman Survey (CIRP) - a national survey that gathers information about incoming college students. The survey asks about your expectations for college, your academic habits and experiences, what influenced your college choice, your goals and values, and how you spend your time. Your responses will be kept confidential. Results from this survey not only guide Tulane's program planning and support services, they are used by higher education researchers to better understand and improve the undergraduate college experience. Your voice counts!
Look for an email dated July 30 with the subject line "REMINDER: Your Voice Counts" to access your personalized link and have your voice heard!

Tulane Recovery Community
The Tulane Recovery Community's mission is to support individualized recovery on campus by providing recovery-based programs that foster academic achievement, connection and engagement.
The Tulane Recovery Community welcomes anyone who is interested in what a recovery lifestyle has to offer, including those who are "recovery curious" and are questioning their relationship with alcohol and or other substances.

Get Involved at the 2020 Virtual Fall Activities Expo!
The Activities Expo is a semesterly event during which student organization leaders and prospective organization members can meet and form new connections!
There are over 300 registered student organizations at Tulane, so Expo provides an efficient and effective way for interested students to learn about joining a student organization.

Renewing & Empowering Spaces for Truth (REST) & Healing
Renewing & Empowering Spaces for Truth (REST) & Healing is a new program created by the Office of Multicultural Affairs. Our goal is simply to provide spaces for students, staff, and faculty to build community and promote healthy emotional and mental well-being. We believe this should take place within communities of color through dedicated affinity group space focused on intragroup healing from racial trauma. This space will provide affirming and empowering counter-spaces for Black students and students of color.
Meetings will take place bi-weekly during the times and days provided below. We will begin the program via zoom and move to in person sessions when our new Center for Intercultural Life opens. Open to students, faculty, and staff.

The Freshman Leadership Program provides passionate students with the knowledge, mentorship, and resources necessary to become impact-driven individuals who shall find success in the activities they choose to partake in.
With support from Undergraduate Student Government and other campus departments, FLP also exposes students to the knowledge, experience, and connections that will empower them to create change on Tulane's campus and in the surrounding New Orleans community. Tulane University Dance Marathon is a student run organization set out to inspire our campus and make a difference in our local community. Year long, we raise funds and awareness for Children's Hospital New Orleans (CHNOLA), our local Children's Miracle Network Hospital.
We strive to educate, inspire, and unite our campus and community to provide ongoing support for CHNOLA. We are a generation fighting for the next, and we will not stop until every child can cut off their hospital bands. For The Kids!

Now in its 30th year, Outreach Tulane is Tulane University's largest and oldest community service event. We'll be starting the 2020 school year with one of Tulane's wonderful opportunities to get involved with giving back. We organize over 1,000 volunteers to support the greater New Orleans area and give students a chance to get to know the place we call home.
Being such a large community, we have the ability to impact New Orleans in a positive way like no other. This year's Outreach Tulane will look much different with smaller groups entirely on campus. There are options for both remote and in-person volunteer projects. Sign up today!
