Hello Maverick Families!
Spring is a busy time of year at Maize South Intermediate! We have many events planned in the coming weeks for our students.
On Wednesday, March 30th, from 9:30-10:45, our 6th graders will take a field trip to MSMS to meet the counselors, listen to the band, and tour the building. We are excited for them to learn about all the different elective choices they will get in 7th grade. Be looking for more information coming soon from MSMS.
We will kick off April with our 1st Annual Color Run! Stuco students and families have been working very hard preparing for this big event. I look forward to having all of our students, staff, and families celebrating together. It should be an amazing evening!
April also brings state assessments for our students. April 4th through April 14th our students will be taking ELA, Math, and Science state assessments. Please help support your child through this testing window by encouraging them to do their best, make sure they have plenty of rest, and eat a well balanced breakfast! Students and staff have worked hard all year and I know they will do great.

Covid Protocol and Testing:
The daily rapid testing clinic is now back open!! This free resource is for staff, students and parents of anyone attending USD #266!! You can check our district website for updated information regarding our Daily Rapid Testing Clinic hours, locations and Close Contact Protocols. If you plan to go to the testing clinic, please take the consent form and have it filled out prior to arriving.
Covid Vaccine Notification:
Please continue to upload a COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card in Skyward if your student has received both doses. You can always email this to me too!! A child is fully vaccinated two weeks after receiving their second dose!
Medications:
If your child needs to take any medication at school, a consent form must be filled out every school year before any medication is administered at school. You can find this form on the USD266 website by clicking here and clicking Authorization for Medication. If this medication is prescribed by a physician, I need their signature as well in order to administer.
Nurse Hannah is currently out on maternity leave, please feel free to contact Janelle McKenna or Anthea Richards by stopping by the office or calling if you have any questions or concerns about your student!

Battle of the Books: We held our first Battle of the Books semi-final competition on Wednesday, March 2. All teams were prepared and eager. Many rounds ended in a tie breaker question. The students did a fabulous job recalling details from all of the books they had read. The top two teams competed in the final rounds Wednesday, March 9. The Bookworms and The Buzzers are pictured below (Bookworms on the left; Buzzers on the right). The Bookworms beat The Buzzers in a sudden death tie breaker. What a great competition it was!

Books: We have so many wonderful books in our library. Many students have found a particular series they love, and we love to keep them reading. If your child is interested in any particular titles, please make sure they let us know. We love to help kids find books of interest to them. There is nothing like escaping in a good book!
Passion Research Project: We are putting the final touches on our Passion Research project. Students have taken their notes and written what they’ve learned in their own words. They have created Bibliographies to cite their sources. The next steps are to assemble their projects and share what they’ve learned.

Happy Spring!
Wow! We cannot believe it is almost the fourth quarter already! This month’s Counselor Lesson was over Career Exploration. Students took an interest inventory to see what careers matched their interests. We encourage you to ask your student if their results matched something they were interested in for a future career:).
We know Spring can be a busy and sometimes stressful time. If you think your student may be a good candidate for an anxiety and stress-relieving group, please email tslattery@usd266.com.
We hope Spring Break is a relaxing time for all our families!
