St. Mark's Montessori School and Church are collaborating with artists Manuel Hernandez and Lisa Domenici to create a second beautiful mosaic. This "Cosmos Mosaic Mural" will help foster a stronger community within St. Mark’s, whilst creating a stunning piece of art that will go up near the school’s playground. This location will make it so the whole neighborhood can enjoy this artwork. This project began just days before the school closed in March 2020 due to the Covid-19 Pandemic and continued in its planning stages until spring of this year. Like everything else these days this project needed to be flexible in its planning, hosting of events, and fundraising. Partial funding for this project has come from a generous gift from the Sacred Arts Guild, as well as individual contributions and school capital funds.

We're raising money to benefit Saint Mark's Montessori School & Church - Cosmos Mosaic Mural, and any gift will help make an impact in creating this beautiful mosaic. Also, in anticipation of our school starting back up, our facilities staff member, Leo C' de Baca, created a new fountain for our preschoolers! It looks fantastic!

Meet at Central & Girard at 9:30AM and walk East until you see the Albuquerque Trolley. We will celebrate a short "Parking Lot Pride Eucharist" on the Trolley at 9:45 a.m., then ride and/or walk alongside the Trolley with friends and members of our sister Episcopal Churches in the Pride parade! All are welcome! Wear sunscreen and bring water to drink!

COVID-19 Vaccines for Immunocompromised People |
|
|
|
Currently, CDC is recommending that moderately to severely immunocompromised people receive an additional dose. This includes people who have:
- Been receiving active cancer treatment for tumors or cancers of the blood
- Received an organ transplant and are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Received a stem cell transplant within the last 2 years or are taking medicine to suppress the immune system
- Moderate or severe primary immunodeficiency (such as DiGeorge syndrome, Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- Advanced or untreated HIV infection
- Active treatment with high-dose corticosteroids or other drugs that may suppress your immune response
People should talk to their healthcare provider about their medical condition, and whether getting an additional dose is appropriate for them.
Regarding those who received the J&J vaccine:
The FDA’s recent EUA amendment only applies to mRNA COVID-19 vaccines, as does CDC’s recommendation.
Emerging data have demonstrated that immunocompromised people who have low or no protection following two doses of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines may have an improved response after an additional dose of the same vaccine. There is not enough data at this time to determine whether immunocompromised people who received the Johnson & Johnson’s Janssen COVID-19 vaccine also have an improved antibody response following an additional dose of the same vaccine.

We are currently reading and discussing Walk in Love: Episcopal Beliefs and Practices by Scott Gunn and Melody Wilson Shobe. Anyone is welcome to join the conversation on Zoom on Sundays at noon. We are planning our quarterly art exhibitions in the Sacred Arts space beginning in September. The walls of the Parish Hall's Sacred Arts Gallery have been blank for over a year. As we emerge from the pandemic, it will be good to see the loveliness of art adorning the gallery again. Please consider submitting up to three pieces. There is no theme, however, we’d like to see plenty of vibrant color.

On Saturday, August 14, a 7.2 magnitude earthquake struck the southwest portion of Haiti. This devastating earthquake was followed by Tropical Storm Grace on Monday night and much of Tuesday. More than 1 million people, including more than half a million children, have been impacted by the back-to-back disasters, and the death toll is close to 2000.
