These meetings for parents will review each team's processes and procedures, with a particular focus on 7th grade. The meetings will address the questions and comments we have received on the following topics:
-
Expectations for students at Washburne
-
Team philosophy and procedures for helping students meet those expectations
-
The best way for students and parents to communicate with individual teachers
-
Homework and workload in the Hybrid model
There will also be an opportunity for parents to ask questions to your individual team's teachers during the meeting.
Winter conferences are coming up next week and I know our staff is eager to talk with you about the growth your students are making. It is our hope that these meetings and conferences will be a positive way for our community to interact with our staff as we know that the pandemic has limited our opportunity for connection.
I have also included some information that was shared at the last board meeting about extending the length of the school day at Washburne. There will certainly be more information to come about this topic in the coming weeks.
Take care and be well,
Dr. Andrew Fenton Ben Horwitz Principal Assistant Principal

Extended Day Update
for Washburne Families
At last Tuesday's Board Meeting, the Spring, Summer, Fall 2021 Roadmap, detailing plans to further maximize safe, in-person, quality learning was presented. As part of this plan, Washburne is planning on merging our AM and PM pods, resulting in all students attending in the morning hours. We are in the process of creating a schedule for this plan and will continue to keep you updated as we have more information to share.
As shared with our parent community on Friday, this is the general plan for Carleton Washburne School: -
Within the window of March 8 - April 5, AM/PM pods will merge and students will be on campus for at least a 4-hour day utilizing larger spaces (such as gyms, cafeteria, etc.) to achieve 6 feet of social distancing.
-
Implementation date will be confirmed on February 15.
-
Families will have another opportunity to choose on-site or remote learning once schedules are available the week of February 15.
Our staff has been working together to plan for this change while also working to ensure that students are supported daily. You can view the more extensive plan here. If your child currently attends in-person school in the afternoon, please plan for extended morning attendance once this plan is implemented.
The School Board will hold a special board meeting on Monday, February 15 at 6:00 pm to discuss the implementation date and details for Carleton Washburne's new schedule, among other topics. After this meeting, we will provide more information on our Extended Day plan.
In the meantime, if you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at [email protected].

CrisisGo Compliance Reminder
As we plan to lengthen our school day, it is critically important that all families with students attending our schools continue to fill out the CrisisGo Symptom checker daily. This practice has been pivotal in contact tracing, reporting to the county, and proactively responding to avoid community spread of COVID-19.
We ask for community compliance in order to support the safety of our families and staff.
