Joseph of Arimathea

Faces of Faith this week: Joseph of Arimathea

We will hear the story of Joseph of Arimathea who, though a prominent member of the council who condemned Jesus, doesn't agree with their decision. And then he does something. He asks Pilate for Jesus' body and by himself removes him from the cross and lays him in a tomb. So it is not the taunting and mocking that get the last word on that awful day—but this tender action. The students will be sharing their stories from the mission trip with this act of kindness as a backdrop.

Good and gracious God, violence doesn't get the final word. Kindness does and it takes many forms. Help us to see where we can show simple kindness. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Mission Trip
Notes Received
Thank you for choosing CAP and recruiting/organizing the team you brought here to serve! It takes a lot of hands to offer all the services we provide families in eastern Kentucky.
We would not be able to serve all that we do without the help of countless volunteers. You had a choice, and you chose Christian Appalachian Project. We are forever thankful! We hope to see you again and often.

Blessings,
The Foley Team
Becky, Kelli, Linda, Lisa & Chris
Hurley will sure enjoy his new ramp. Thanks so much for everything. We appreciate you all so much for the work you have done. We will always remember you all. Thanks for all you have done. Was so glad to meet you all.

May God bless you all and be with you.
Hurley and Joann
WONDERING...
Real questions from real people to learn more about faith
Why go on a mission trip...part 2
There's a book called, 'When Helping Hurts' that outlines a problem with some of our mission work. It focuses more on the experience of the helpers than those being served. Those who aren't struggling with poverty and all of its causes can be prescriptive; proposing solutions rather than listening to the people that are affected, making them feel like just another problem. When we learn to focus on the people, we will see how we are connected to the people, but also how issues around poverty connect all of us. That's why we appreciate the work of Christian Appalachian Project (CAP), with whom we were able to serve on this trip. They are fully invested in long term community building...we simply come alongside to lend a hand.

NOW HIRING!
Children and Family Coordinator
Miss Christy has been our Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries for the past three years, but it's time for her to spread her wings! She is pursuing a full time opportunity in the field of education. We are excited for Christy, especially since she will still be at GLC and will still be part of the volunteer crew sharing children's messages! We've been so appreciative of her incredible creativity and familiar connection to our families.

We will be searching for a new Coordinator of Children and Family Ministries. If you are interested in this part-time position at GLC (or know someone who would be great), please contact Pastor Trudy.
Nursery Attendant
GLC is hiring a part-time paid nursery attendant to care for 1-3 year olds while their families are in Worship. The biggest qualification is a love of children. Commitment is 3 hours each Sunday morning. This position could be shared! Please contact Pastor Trudy
