"What I think people are getting right about [beef buying],
and I’m encouraged by, is people are being deliberate.
People are being intentional about how their food and their
lifestyle ties back to the environment we live in."
Marshall Johnson
Vice President of Conservation Ranching for Audubon
from Edible Communities story "The Birds & The Beef" and introducing
"Grazed on Audubon Certified Bird-Friendly Land" label
Must beef production always be at odds with the environment? How can we make sure the beef we’re buying is preserving and enriching the grasslands birds need to survive? Episode 1 of Edible Communities' Eat, Drink, Think Podcast focuses on sustainable meats from environmentally conscious ranchers eager to be not a part of the problem, but part of the solution to improve the health of important ecosystems for grassland birds. And to flavor the discussion on better beef.
This podcast is a companion to the Edible Communities national magazine feature story, "The Birds & The Beef" by Joy Manning, which appeared this summer in Edible magazines across the country, including Edible Silicon Valley. If you didn't get a print copy of the magazine, read it online here (web article) or see its full-page display in our ESV digital flipbook edition here (print article). This food-for-thought media is part of a quarterly series of stories and podcasts by Edible Communities that span topics on sustainability, hunger, climate change, restaurant revitalization and regenerative agriculture.

Want to stay local? Panorama Organics started right here in Northern California. While it's since expanded outside of the state, they work with ranchers as close as Walnut Creek and Hollister, and have partnered with CrowdCow.com as an online retailer.
