Local Action Update:
Shaker Heights and Lucas County join PCFO
We are thrilled to announce the two newest PCFO communities, Shaker Heights and Lucas County!

At the September 27 Shaker Heights City Council meeting, Council members unanimously adopted a resolution to join Power A Clean Future Ohio, furthering efforts underway by the City to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in Shaker Heights. With passage of this resolution, the City of Shaker Heights became the 20th community to join Power A Clean Future Ohio.

Shaker Heights Mayor David Weiss said, “Many of the activities our City has undertaken in the last several years overlap with Power A Clean Future Ohio goals, as we seek to live and work more sustainably through recycling programs, tree planting, EV charging, and composting food waste. By joining PCFO, Shaker Heights will benefit from networking with other member cities to share best practices and hear from industry experts to continue to advance sustainability and carbon reduction goals.”

At the September 28 Lucas County Board of County Commissioners meeting, the county commissioners unanimously adopted a resolution to join Power a Clean Future Ohio and committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions in Lucas County by 30% by 2030 below 2010 levels. PCFO will work with local leaders to provide technical assistance and partnerships to help county staff as they review and update their Greater Toledo: Going Beyond Green sustainability plan. With passage of this resolution, Lucas County became the 21st community to join Power A Clean Future Ohio and is the first county to join.

Lucas County Commissioner Tina Wozniak said, “Power a Clean Future Ohio is offering critical support to the County as we chart a path forward that will protect our environment and grow our economy. We’re eager to work with partners to ensure our sustainability plans lead the state and prioritize the health and well-being of our communities first and foremost.”
Cities are rethinking transit
In this recent New York Times article, learn more about how cities around the world are making the switch to provide cleaner fuel and electric options for public transportation.

Only 16% of city buses worldwide are electric. Cities who are being successful in the switch to electric public transportation are seeing many benefits including cleaner air, fewer traffic jams and an overall easier way to get people around. These results have many local governments making the switch quicker. Communities throughout the world are not stopping with buses. Many local governments are examining trams and cable cars, and are finding the citizens are supportive of the move towards these technological advancements in transportation.

If you’re interested in finding out more about transportation electrification, our team at Power A Clean Future Ohio is available to discuss what services make the most sense for your community. Please contact us if you’re interested in learning more.
