Virtual Simulation in Nursing Education Survey Report

In the fall of 2020, the Canadian Association of Schools of Nursing (CASN) conducted a survey on the use of virtual simulation in Canadian schools of nursing.

The Virtual Simulation in Nursing Education Survey Report provides nurse educators with a snapshot of the use of virtual simulation in Canadian schools of nursing six months after the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The analysis and discussion provided describe considerations to optimize the use of virtual simulation alongside classroom, in-person simulation, and clinical placements.

Nursing the Future

Greetings from NTF!

We have reached the one-year anniversary of Nursing the FutureTM 2.0! Over the past year, our team of nurses and nursing students from across Canada have worked passionately to deliver 14 unique strategies of support, connection, and education, all created to meet the needs of those transitioning to professional practice for the first time. NTF’s inaugural year included the creation of a website and our official launch into the Canadian nursing community where newly graduated nurses and their supporters were afforded numerous support resources, asked to share their experiences, and contribute their voices on the issues that impact all nurses in this country. Every week meant new content was shared through blogs, interviews, book reviews and author interviews, national speakers and question/answer platforms! The feedback we have received from our subscribers has been phenomenal! Through our face-to-face CONNECT sessions we have had over 300 people participate in a variety of topic sessions ranging from preparing for national qualifying exams to coping with practice stress in a global pandemic. Reviews of all sessions have been outstanding and thanks to everyone who provided us with feedback to make us even better moving forward. We are proud of our growing social media followership and had so much fun celebrating nurses with a robust presence from dawn to dusk during Nurse’s Week; we sure hope you saw us!

We wanted to pass on our sincere thanks to all those who have supported us in so many ways. We have spoken with or had submissions and ideas from a rich and diverse body of experts and novices, and we thank you all for the time you have given to the future of nursing.

Over Summer 2021, we will be hosting our first Greenhouse session focusing on leadership development, interviewing nurses with unique contributions to the field – and stay tuned as we launch our incredible series on caring with Dr. Jean Watson. Kicking off the fall, we will focus on students returning to, or entering their educational programs in a post-COVID world. So much to talk about! If you have something to share with newly graduated nurses, whether it is a new program, story, or expert conversation, we would love to hear from you! Email newgraduates@nursingthefuture.ca with your ideas and requests!
