A message from our CEO
Summer is here, and we are making the most of the beautiful weather!

In July, we partnered with Unity Project in London to upgrade and refurbish their shelter facility on Dundas Street. This partnership was a natural one for us, as both Habitat and Unity Project strongly believe that housing solutions and homeownership are stabilizing and empowering forces that should be available to everyone in our community. We are so grateful to the skilled team of Habitat Heartland construction volunteers that made this renovation project a success – you did great work guys!!

Currently, our construction crew and volunteers are hard at work building 4 homes for Indigenous families in Munsee-Delaware Nation. This project has been going very well since breaking ground a few months ago, and we encourage you to follow our social media accounts to keep up with our progress. We are also excited to announce our upcoming home build in St. Thomas of 2 single-family homes on Hiawatha Street!

Our ReStores are launching their annual end of summer sales promotion next week with an exciting, community oriented twist! More information on that in the ReStore news section. Happily, we are continuing to serve our ReStore customers online and in-store following provincial guidelines. The health and safety of our staff, volunteers, and community members continues to be our top priority. We thank you for your cooperation when visiting your local ReStore. During difficult times like these, we must remember that we are stronger together. Thank you for your continued support, and stay well!

Unity Project Refurbishment
In July, we were proud to partner with our friends at Unity Project to refurbish and upgrade their shelter facility at 717 Dundas Street in London!

Unity Project offers a home-like shelter environment for adults and youth of all genders, aged 16 and up. Habitat Heartland’s work on the facility has helped Unity Project's goal of making a stay at their shelter as comfortable and productive as possible. Habitat Heartland’s team of construction volunteers made upgrades to the facility’s sleeping areas, common areas, deck, kitchen, and more!

Munsee-Delaware Nation Indigenous Build

Habitat homeowner reflects on the current state of housing advocacy
"Difficult does not begin to describe what housing instability feels like," says Juanita, affordable housing advocate and Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity homeowner since 1995. She lives in Minneapolis with her husband and 5 children, and has written about her experience as a housing advocate in the U.S.

Juanita writes,"As we shelter in place and practice social distancing, there are thousands of people for whom this isn’t as straightforward as it sounds. The uncertainty so many of us feel today, they have felt for a lifetime — if not generations. Additionally, the tragic killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis has placed a spotlight on the inequities that have resulted from systemic and persistent racism, inequities that have kept people of color from achieving economic stability across generations."

Learn how you can get involved in Habitat for Humanity's efforts for safe, secure, affordable housing for everyone.
